Hayden’s “schedule” at 4 months looks a lot like his 3 month schedule with two notable exceptions. We’re still following the Eat – Awake – Sleep cycle as much as possible, but his awake window is starting to stretch to 90+ minutes versus 75 minutes last month. It still seems a bit accidental when it happens, but he’s repeated it enough times to make me think he’s getting the hang of it. We also found out this past month that Hayden has an allergy to cow’s milk protein and likely soy, as well.
If we’re able to execute it the way I envision, it will be super chic, but also also highly functional — acting as an extra family room / den / playroom, as well as an office space, and a guest bedroom. What do you think First and foremost, the wide opening and pocket doors allow this room to be an extension of our main living room, which is a little small and narrow. Eventually, he may need a more dedicated space with extra toy storage and things like that, but for now I’m hoping a soft rug and kid-friendly furniture will suffice. Originally, I planned for a chaise sofa in this room since the main function is really a playroom / den / hangout space.
There’s a whole section and filter for the downloadable variation of art that’s perfect for printing at home. And so my mind has moved on to finishing touches and I’m thinking that we will be making use of many inexpensive prints balanced with more “grown-up” art from a few favorites (Gray Malin & Joshua Young to name a few). Photography is the first place my mind goes when I’m trying to find artwork for almost any space. , I recommend doing a search on Etsy and using the the Prints —> Digital Prints filter and adding your own terms based on subject matter, color scheme or style.
It’s not that I haven’t found joy in this time, but the first 12 weeks of Hayden’s life have felt like 12 weeks to me. Selfishly, 30 minutes is just enough time to shower & get dressed OR make lunch OR make a phone call, but not enough time to do multiple things or even take on a longer project (like writing this post). That said, I’ve read multiple times that the key at this age is to help them learn how to put themselves to sleep, not to sleep in super long stretches. First, focus on the rhythm of eat — awake — sleep (to dissociate eating and sleeping) while watching for sleepy cues and trying not to keep Hayden awake for more than 90 minute stretches.
