Governor Abbott Suspends Elective Procedures and Pauses Reopening in Dallas County

The counties “shall postpone all surgeries and procedures that are not medically necessary to diagnose or correct a serious medical condition of, or to preserve the life of, a patient who without timely performance of the surgery or procedure would be at risk for serious adverse medical consequences or death, as determined by the patient’s physician,” the order reads. It is unclear whether pausing at this point is enough to curb the virus’ spread; many public health officials have said Abbott reopened the economy too soon, before a two week drop in new cases and hospitalizations. Since June 1, COVID-19 hospitalizations are up 88 percent in Dallas County and 86 percent in a 19 county North Texas region, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported yesterday. As Texas faces a rise in COVID-19 cases, we are focused on both slowing the spread of this virus and maintaining sufficient hospital capacity for COVID-19 patients,” Abbott said in a release.

Look No Further to Find Powerful Summer Programs for Young Girls

This summer, Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas is offering an exciting alternative to traditional virtual programs for Dallas-area girls entering 1st through 8th grades! In these live, interactive courses, girls will make new friends while learning about topics such as safe social media, STEM, and physical and emotional well-being. A mother of one student explained that Girls Inc. programming has been a source of encouragement and support for her daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through research-based programs and an all-girl environment, Girls Inc. encourages girls to grow into young women who are prepared to make a positive difference in their lives, their families, and the world.

A Timeline of Downtown Dallas Plunging Into Chaos

When we saw things escalating from our downtown apartment, we decided to step outside and look around. Afraid of COVID-19 and still a little raw from the tiny amount of tear gas I received, we headed to our apartment overlooking Elm and Ervay. It wasn’t until I saw the shattered windows at the Architecture and Design Exchange, a nonprofit that works to educate about architecture and where I’m the board president, that we decided to head back out. We have two windows in our apartment that open, one overlooking Elm, the other overlooking Ervay.

Dallas Restaurants Are Allowed to Open at 50 Percent Capacity Today

’s announcement on Monday that bars will be allowed to reopen today at 25 percent capacity, also came the news that restaurants would be permitted to bump their capacity from 25 percent to 50. Already, for the shift to 25 percent, the whimsical retro saloon had rearranged the dining room, seating stools six feet apart at the long bar (enough for five couples at a time) and pulling decorative items out of the back, like candleholders, to place on tables alongside witty cards to indicate no-sit spaces in a 38-seating dining room. menus mimic one another, Ford will be able to start running features, bringing back items like the silky venison tartare as well as fresh oysters, which would be inconceivable for takeout. When I spoke with Matt McCallister early on in his curbside pickup operations (from which he will be shifting today to in-room dining), he suggested takeout was the only way many restaurants would be able to carry on through the great hiatus and hopefully reemerge without having it be like opening a whole new restaurant.
