Seventeen-year-old Anouk envies the human world, where people known as Pretties lavish themselves in fast cars, high fashion, and have the freedom to fall in love. Enchanted from animal to human girl and forbidden to venture beyond her familiar Parisian prison, Anouk is a Beastie: destined for a life surrounded by dust bunnies and cinders serving Mada Vittora, the evil witch who spelled her into existence. Grim Lovelies is an enchanting fantasy novel set in Paris about Anouk, a ‘Beastie’ aka an animal turned human. Set in the modern world, the author managed to integrate a lot of the world’s history with The Royals, who controlled the magic system in this world.
Another year, another set of books I add to my TBR! Although I didn’t get to reading all the 2018 releases I was so hyped for, and have a mountain of a TBR, does that stop me from adding 2019 releases to my TBR? There were so many books I wanted on this list that I decided to make two lists: one for contemporary and one for fantasy. Look out for the fantasy list later this week! What are some 2019 contemporary releases you are excited for?
It’s been a looong busy year where I’ve done a lot, been to new places, met new people and made great friends and started realizing the toxic people I want to cut out of my life as well. Do monthly wrap-ups in order to reach my overarching goal of Read more through the school year And start getting better at balancing school and reading/blogging Get all As, at least in one semester I want to start writing better, funnier blog posts and put in effort into my blog to make it something I am proud of. The idea of solo travel slightly terrifies me but I’ve only heard of good experiences so I’m hoping to be able to travel a little bit this year, even if its just around the US.
I read most of them in the summer though, and thought I would have had more time in the semester to read. Though Europe is mainly a backdrop as the story revolves around the five main characters, it’s a fun, quick read about moving on into the future but still holding on to the past. It’s a cute story and I love the story-within-a-story aspect it has going on. I have some issues with it which is why it isn’t a 5 star read but overall, a great story!
