Easy Design Impact? Super size your chandelier!

Intentionally using a light fixture that’s a little too big for the space can look phenomenol. Almost all of the “brand name” designers play with scale – for someone without that budget, or that multi, multi-million dollar home Dining Rooms, Entries and Bedrooms are great places to incorporate a large piece. If adding a big, expensive light fixture makes you nervous – the easiest way to play with scale in your home is with branches or large flower arrangements.

10 Classic Bathrooms for a Classic Cottage Look

As I’m writing this, Denver meteorologists are probably sweating in cramped television studios after little to no sleep because they’ve lost their minds about an upcoming winter storm. Our home is a 1930’s shack, I mean cottage, and I’ve taken inspiration from classic, unfitted bathrooms that I’ve adored through the years. With unfitted bathrooms you typically see classic materials like stone and wood with freestanding pedestal or wall mount sinks paired with antique or vintage cabinets for storage. They aren’t truly in the spirit of what I think of as a cottage, but I think we can take inspiration from their use of natural materials, reclaimed furniture and lighting and simplicity of design.

Homes that don’t look like everyone else’s….

Pattern is a little more difficult to work with and I’ve noticed a lot of people are bothered by what I call “visual noise” in their home. these are great rooms to play around with pattern in your home if you’re someone who generally likes a soothing environment, but wouldn’t mind going bold somewhere. A lot of my clients worry that they’ll get tired of the pattern or color they choose, but I think you get used to pattern and color in your home My book recommendation for this week is: The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meissner.

Before and After: A late 90’s home gets a light and airy remodel

Not only did these clients live in the home during the renovation, they also lived through a renovation during the beginning weeks and months of the pandemic. The client’s wanted to try to get more light into their north-facing space, they wanted an island and a more family friendly layout. The table is the client’s original, mid-century dining table and the chairs are from Article. In changing up the traffic pattern for the kitchen, I closed off the Butler’s Pantry and added a wet bar to the living room in the area where you see the bookcase.
