Ben Tre Farm Stay – An easy escape from Saigon life in the Mekong Delta

FUTA (or Phuong Trang) is one of the biggest bus companies in Vietnam, and they offer a free shuttle service to hotels at most of their destinations. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get from Mien Tay Bus Station to Ben Tre, and from there I got taken in the van to a little bridge, where I was met by staff of the homestay. Ask the reception to call the FUTA bus company and a van will come and get you before the next bus. During my stay I was able to spend half a day in Ben Tre and then do a morning tour the next day before getting the bus.

Where I’m At: December, 2019 – Ben Tre edition

Canggu is the preferred digital nomad location in Bali, but it’s at the far end of the southern beaches and a bit of a pain to get around if you are visiting other places. My brief interactions in with fellow nomads in Ubud had me thinking that I need to spend more time there at some point, maybe splitting my time for a month between Ubud and Canggu. I ended up getting more article ideas for Living In Asia instead, including Bali’s terrible road system. It’s good though to be in one place where I know people, and where people who are visiting know where to find me.

Jalan Jaksa – The slow demise of Jakarta’s backpacker street

It’s a 10 minute walk to Gondangdia Station on the commuter line, and not far from Gambir Station (the long distance railway). I was going to blame the demise of the street on a decline in tourism, but Jakarta has seen an increase in tourism. According to Tourism Indonesia, Jakarta has seen a rise in tourism from China and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia might be more to do with the fact that as Indonesia becomes more prosperous there are now more Hajj flights from Jakarta to Saudi Arabia.

Jakarta Airport Rail Link – Train details, and which stations are best for visitors

SHIA Station (Soekarno–Hatta International Airport Station) is located between Skytrain station of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. Unlike the airport train at KL and Hong Kong (as two examples), the airport train is not accessible from the terminals. By the time they get from Kemang to BNI City, and then get the train, they could have got a taxi to the airport in less time. For visitors though, and especially those staying within range of BNI City, then the airport train will save you time and frustration.
