Plywood – cut into 8″ boards (this wall required 3 sheets of plywood) Paint your wall — or at least paint strips, 8 inches apart on your wall and let dry before installing the plywood boards. Push bottom board up to hold spacer in place tightly and fasten to the wall with brads. You can purchase shiplap at most home improvement stores, like Menard’s or Home Depot, but it can get kind of pricey…especially if you’re covering a large wall, like I was.
I didn’t want a super-specific niche, and I still don’t. I began looking at home in early 2018 — tiny homes, container homes, modular homes, and manufactured homes. It’s Missouri, and although winter hasn’t been very wintry in the Midwest for a few years this past winter was and I wasn’t prepared; I didn’t have rock salt or a shovel. It’s all about taking one step at time, even if those steps are super-small, and may not seem like much, they’re all heading in the right direction
My favorite “definition,” because it’s easy for other people to grasp, is that it’s like there’s a window between you and the world. You can see everything that’s going on, but you don’t feel like you’re really there or participating. After tracking when this happens and what’s different about those days, per my therapist’s suggestion, there doesn’t seem to be a solid pattern. It also doesn’t mean that people treat me any differently; though, I guess, they could but, luckily, those I’m closest to don’t think of me as some fragile, doll-like thing that needs protecting.
So, I had done a pretty deep clean of our apartment that weekend and somehow totally missed the presence of bed bugs. Unfortunately, that meant taking the bed frame apart—by myself—the morning of inspection when I realized, too late, that I couldn’t move it away from the walls with everything else moved out and the mattress taken off. The majority of our furnishings are, what I would consider, essentials—bed, dresser, sofa, small coffee table with storage, kitchen table + chairs. We do have some “superfluous” items, like the record player and stand, two small side tables, lamps and utility cart, but having things down to the “bare minimum” made this whole process a lot easier than it could have been.
