Check Out the Garden District of New Orleans

One of the things I love about New Orleans is its architecture. However, it is a very lovely area with both a picturesque cemetery and some great residential architecture to check out. The best way to start your exploration of the Garden District is by streetcar along the St. Charles line; if you’re starting from the French Quarter, you’ll catch it on Canal Street. Bonus: If you’re curious about NOLA’s medical history (and it’s a doozy considering the city was built in a swamp), check out the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum in the French Quarter.

If you need a hotel recommendation, I stayed at the International House Hotel, one street outside of the French Quarter, and loved it. Walking tours, steamboat tours, horse and carriage tours * Black History: Mr. Leon Waters of Hidden History has been doing tours of the French Quarter for over two decades. He is an impressive wealth of knowledge and it is absolutely fascinating to learn about New Orleans from a black history angle.

Is the Thousand Islands Cruise Worth Doing?

I’m not even going to bother teasing you, dragging out my answer to this – in my opinion, the Thousand Islands cruise is totally not worth doing! I have been on some pretty bad excursions during my travels, including ones on rivers such as the Mississippi River in New Orleans. But while the NOLA steamboat cruise made me kinda angry, at least I had the entertainment of a unexpected thunderstorm
