Before you even reply to that text message, run into the kitchen and drop the stopper in the sink, then swirl in a really fragrant dish soap all around the bottom of the sink. The house will smell like fresh detergent and it will look like you just got caught mid-cleaning sesh. When I’ve got a house full of tornado aftermath (AKA my ten year old and his love of Legos), or I just cooked the stinkiest of stinky meals, and no time to clean it up, I do what any southern lady does. she’s welcome, but by sitting down outside, it’s a silent gesture that I’d prefer we don’t go in the house.
This is what I tell myself when I don’t feel like organizing, and sometimes, it just isn’t enough. I’m sure you’ve surprise-visited someone before and their home looked like it had just been photographed for a magazine feature. It works for anyone and everyone, including me, the mom of a 5th grader, the owner of three pets that shed like a wool rug, and the full time employee of not one but two jobs. And one day someone will be jealous of your always-clean home and think you have super speed powers, too.

Places like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Local Yard Sale social pages, and apps like OfferUp and FreeCycle are always listing free items. Usually, the owners are moving or redecorating themselves, and they don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling the items or taking them to donation centers.
