” Catherine passed away from metastatic breast cancer in July, 2017. I often think about Catherine’s advice and how important it is for me to be someone other than that new mom who had breast cancer. I can’t talk from a place of living with metastatic cancer but I can share my struggles with being consumed by cancer and forgetting what I once enjoyed out of life. I took a three-year break from writing about cancer and have since shifted from blogging about advocacy to sharing my more personal side of life after cancer with readers.

How to Help a Friend Dealing with a Cancer Diagnosis For this post, I reached out to friends whom I were certain had made a meal once or twice for someone who needed it. Even I found myself needing meal ideas last summer after a family friend lost their dear daughter. Five years ago I was thumbing through one of those complimentary hotel room magazines when I stumbled across an ad for Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop in Lahaina. We ordered a mini coconut cream pie to enjoy there while taking a mini banana cream pie and a German chocolate brownie back to our hotel. The lot was packed with rental cars and it was obvious word got out about the Olowalu Town deli and pie shop. If you’re visiting the west side of Maui, I highly recommend stopping in at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop.
