Water Damage News and Updates

Homes and buildings built within the first half of the 20th century used lead piping, which introduced lead into the water supply. Older closed piping systems, with no chemical treatment, from the 1950s and earlier exhibit higher and uniform wall thickness compared to pipes installed later. Most pipe manufactured in the past 20 years is undersized and often at or very near the 12.5% lower strength tolerance limit allowed by ASTM. 25% wall thickness tolerance that still exists from the early 1900s when lead pipe was easily made thicker.

As Disasters Rise, Risk Management Adapts

A “disaster” can be defined as anything that prevents access to key processes and activities; from natural events like floods, earthquakes or hurricanes to those that are man-made, both accidental (human error, device failure, power outage, industrial disaster, etc.) and intentional (cyberattack, theft, terrorism). Taking emergency action with a built-in, ready-to-use playbook; customizable alert notifications; contacting all stakeholders, key vendors or insurance carriers, brokers and adjusters; and polling and roll call services. Coordinating property restoration and remediation like fire, water or mold damage; incident reporting; allowing organizations to track, measure and analyze actions taken during crises. This application is setting our customers up to be able to engage in other technologies that will help mitigate risk and save time and money in the future,” says Jeff Magoon, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing at ATI.

Where our buildings go from here

This month’s newsletter is focused on COVID’s impact on office building regulations and what tools the experts are using to cope with the evolving demands. What you use to decontaminate surfaces is a function of EPA and their list of approved chemicals. When you let people back in, the kind of surveillance and decontamination, and guidelines on physical separation is established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And the enforcement of reporting and complaints about outbreaks or conditions in the workplace is the responsibility of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
