READY OR NOT (2019) ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 If you're like me and hate watching something super scary, but don't want to be left to watch Hocus Pocus for the 100th time, this is a perfect spooky film for you. It's got some gore in it, similar to the stuff in "Cabin in the Woods", so not very realistic mostly, but very bloody. Fun fact, the blood they use in this is actually mostly just caramel sauce dyed red, so just remember that if you freak out. “To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.” THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 What an absolutely inspiring film. There are few films that romanticize life so fully that I am moved to action. I actually pulled up plane tickets to Iceland before I remembered that Covid is still a thing and US citizens aren’t allowed to go anywhere because we suck at caring about other people, but I digress. “O hear us when we cry to Thee / For those in Peril on the sea.” FOR THOSE IN PERIL ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Director: Paul Wright Cast: George Mackay, Kate Dickie As I attempt to write this review, I find myself utterly speechless. What an absolutely gorgeous film. For Those In Peril follows a teenaged boy, Aaron, who is the sole survivor of a fishing incident. In the culture of this small fishing village in Ireland, they hold more respect for those who die at sea than those who return home. Aaron, scarred by the loss of his brother who was also on the fishing expedition, is outcast by his neighbors, friends, and eventually his own mother, leaving him to fend for himself as PTSD causes his own mind to betray him. Inception (2010) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 The year is 2013. I’m a horny 14-year-old girl convinced that I’m going to marry a 17-year-old boy I met one time at a church dance. I Facebook stalk him (you do it too, don’t pretend you’re better than me 😡) and find out his favorite movie is this really long one called Inception. “Oh well, better watch it if I’m going to be wed to this boy I don’t even remember the name of because I never spoke to him ever”, I was thinking. So I watched it. And it chANGED MY LIFE. Shout out to that random guy for just being that gorgeous I guess. Alright lads, let’s discuss.  Read the rest of my review on #letterboxd ((link in my bio or search for Emma Ru on the app)) I like to call this picture “I kept inviting people to participate because I can’t count and now I’m the camera person instead of in it”

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Back to the Future poster contest! There were a lot of good submissions, but considering Kirsten literally //lit her porch on fire// for this, she deserves the title of First Poster Contest Winner! Stay tuned next month for our next poster contest.

Host (2020) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Zoom as a concept itself is scary enough, but to actually use it as a horror— I am quaking.  Read the rest of my review on #letterboxd ((link in my bio or search Emma Ru on Letterboxd)) 📸 by @fenrisdescent Background by @morningclouse

Notting Hill (1999) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The year is 1999. I am a bumbling bookstore owner in Notting Hill. I only sell travel books. This was a bad business idea I think. But it doesn't matter because Julia Roberts has come into my store and is in love with me. I have no idea why, but it has nothing to do with the fact that her boyfriend is Alec Baldwin and I, in this scenario, am played by Hugh Grant. If I were a real reporter, this would make a great cover story for Horse and Hounds. Nerve (2016) ⭐️⭐️ Alright folks, I have some tea for you, and I haven't gotten much sleep so the tea-- she's gonna be scathing. ☕ Dave Franco: I love him. I love his face. I love seeing him in movies. One caveat in my unconditional love for Davey-boi is that he can't act. Personally, I'm okay with this, but that was just a thing that I needed to get off my chest. Ad Astra ⭐️⭐️⭐️ We get it, Brad, you've got daddy issues. Like who doesn't though?? Do you think that makes you special??? (obviously you do or you wouldn't have had like ten monologues about it. Ten l o n g monologues. That is not the exact number, I assume, but I stopped counting after the first one because I didn't want to anymore. I thought one daddy monologue was enough, but no, he just kept going) Read the rest of my review on #letterboxd ((link in my bio or look up Emma Ru on Letterboxd)) 📸 @juniperandlavenderjoy

E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 What do you say about an American classic that everyone has already said everything about? ET in a wig looks like my mother. Believe it or not, this was the first time I watched ET ever. When I told that to my mom she said "wow I thought you would've watched that by now" like it wasn't even her fault that I am 21 years old and still haven't seen Jaws 😡. If anyone wants to know why I am the way I am and why I haven't seen a LOT of classic movies, it's because for every classic movie my mom didn't feel like showing me, she put on Shrek instead. Read the rest of my review on #letterboxd (link in my bio or search Emma Ru on Letterboxd) Special Thanks to @mirandamaynardofficial @olympianlily and @leginja for taking me to the drive-in to experience this for the first time

“As long as you can grab a breath, you fight” The Revenant (2015) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Will Poulter is in this film. I don’t think this is super important information, I just feel like I need to mentally prepare before I watch a movie with him in it or I just think about his eyebrows the whole time.  This has crazy good acting. Tom Hardy was UNRECOGNIZABLE in his role. And of course, my two main men, Leo and that Irish guy with the stupid face that I love, blew me away with their performances. The entire film felt so visceral and real. Will Poulter also did great, but I only thought about his eyebrows the entire time.  Read the rest of my review on #Letterboxd (link in bio or look up Emma Ru on Letterboxd)

“I think you should leave right away. I see a very bad situation developing” Death Becomes Her (1992) ⭐️⭐️1/2 I never thought I’d see Bruce Willis in a comedic role, WITH HAIR??? And surprisingly, he does a good job. Read the rest of my review about Bruce Willis’ hair on #letterboxd

“The light is mine” The Lighthouse (2019) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ At the beginning of the quarantine, this movie felt unrelatable and unrealistic, but I get it now. Willem and Robbie P are where I am at with quarantine at this point. And the craziest part is that the very techniques that were used in this movie that felt alienating only a few months ago make this feel exactly how I have been experiencing isolation.
