A California native currently based in Florida, I love good food, outdoor adventure, foreign languages, and a good story. Luckily, everywhere in this great, wide world has a story to tell. Folk tales, legends, oral traditions, you name it. History. Living, breathing history that changes with the landscape and the language. That's what I'm chasing: the story of our planet, told from as many mouths as will tell it. And that's what I share on Expedition Limitless - snippets of history from the places I've traveled to, meant to educate, entertain, and inspire.
The whole town looks good enough to eat, except for the food, which mostly looks too good to eat. The number of Italian restaurants along Tulum Playa’s main drag are proof enough of that (Italian food… in Mexico? ? ). We didn’t eat at Raw Love Tulum until the our last day in Tulum. The prices at Raw Love Tulum are genuinely affordable, which was shocking given that it looks like the love child of Pinterest, Instagram, and a Boho beach designer warehouse (in the best way).
Home to the largest open cavern in California, the Moaning Cavern offers walking tours, rappelling tours, and even a super adventurous tour that ends 300 ft. But the walking tour might not be suited for casual cavern-goers either, considering it’s more of a climbing tour. After a climb down into the earth that will leave your head reeling, the tour guide tells the spooky ghost story, highlighting the skulls and bones with his flashlight, points out some of the more interesting rock formations, and then it’s back up the spiral staircase which shakes and creaks under the weight of you and thirty other tourists. 45-minutes long and involving nothing more strenuous than ducking your head occasionally, Mercer Caverns’ walking tour allows you to enjoy the true star of the show: the history of the cave itself.

It’s an experience that you’ll never forget and likely one you’ll cherish throughout your entire life you likely won’t have a car of your own upon immediate arrival to whichever country you choose, and you’ll likely want to sell your previous vehicle. Next you’ll want to work on your language skills—if possible, try to lose your accent so that locals don’t realize you’re a foreigner. Also, you want some kind of repatriation plan in place in case, again, things abroad don’t go as you intended.
