I love skincare and have nurtured my passion by growing my beauty collection into a veritable cave of wonders. I am fascinated by the interplay of active ingredients and clinical evidence. While my blog And Instagram (@edbtheskincarelover) aren’t only for my demographic, I write from that experiential viewpoint and hope to grow my influencer profile. I am open and keen to collaborate with beauty and skincare brands.
As some of you reading will know, I have a skincare focussed Instagram account and am feeling inspired to talk about natural skin after seeing some serious realness from the skinstagram community I was often told to use makeup several shades lighter than my own, so as to give the appearance of being ‘fair and lovely’, to use lashings of Kajal or Kohl to give my already large brown eyes a more dramatic appearance, Now, I’m not saying I’ve suddenly found a secret reservoir of self belief and have totally given up the travails associated with a bit of slap, but now my daughter has entered my life, it has given me pause for thought of what I want her to grow up understanding as natural beauty. As lovely as a good filter is (who doesn’t love a good filter?), and as beautiful and artistic as make-up can be, they don’t represent #natural faces which can help my daughter and others like her feel just as comfortable in their own skin as that which Charlotte Tilbury (other brands are available 😳) can provide.
It’s a gel-based moisturiser and its hero ingredient is the anti-oxidant Padina Pavonica, found in marine algae, which protects against the ageing effects of free-radical damage. I’ve layered this over various serums and haven’t found any issues with pilling, which, considering it’s often been worn under makeup, is ideal. It’s a pretty good hydrator, even after a full day, my skin doesn’t feel dry and does feel altogether firmer I will caveat this with the fact that I have combination skin and so maybe normal skin types will fare better than mine.
I have quietly nurtured it always hoping to find something transformative, as the explorers of old search for El Dorado. As my obsession has grown into a collection of products, like little jewels strewn in the cave of wonders, I have accumulated a treasure trove of knowledge. Recently I’ve also found that, historically, blogs, articles and write ups have focussed on a consumer that doesn’t always look much like me; 30 something, hormonal ravaged by pregnancy, and a generically hyperpigmented woman of colour. Thankfully the tide is now changing and there are a growing number of contributions from all ages, colours and identities on the LGBTQ spectrum.
