Hello and welcome! I'm a coeliac with a nut allergy and I blog about the gluten free finds I discover on my travels both in the UK and around the world, accompanied by my 3 year old twins.
March also saw the Free From Food Awards presentation to this year’s winners. It has been particularly fun since he is both gluten free and dairy free. It’s always nice not being the only ‘difficult diner’ and a highlight was going for lunch together with the kids where I ordered a gluten free pizza and he ordered a vegan pizza on gluten free base…..with extra beef added. We’re off to Puglia for a week, so if you have any recommendations for great places to eat gluten free food (especially pizza and gelato) in this region of Italy, please do let me know in the comments below.
I’ve had great experiences of eating safely gluten free in mainland Spain and I was pleased to see it was equally easy in Lanzarote. This four cheese pizza wasn’t the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever eaten and you can clearly see it’s a pre-prepared base. As I’d discussed with them in advance if they could safely cater for me there gluten free, they had it ready and we were the first customers to eat so the teppanyaki grill plate was sparkling clean. Other great gluten free meals I’ve enjoyed in February have been this from Ebby’s Kitchen who are located near my office (love her food! ):
Travelling with small kids means wherever we are in the world, we often find ourselves eating in Italian restaurants as the Mini Ds love pizza and pasta…and there’s frequently something suitable (even a salad) for me. EVERYTHING on the Postigo 10 menu is gluten free: With some difficulty (since there was SO MUCH choice) we ordered a selection of dishes and told the kids we’d be sharing a Spanish picnic. The kids loved the calamari which I was happy to see them eat because what’s not to love about calamari cooked in crispy gluten free batter? We learned our lesson from taking the kids on trips to Australia, a country where calamari is as standard on kids’ menus as chicken nuggets are on UK kids’ menus.
We rang in the New Year on the 25th floor of our hotel, the tallest building in Estonia’s beautiful capital, Tallinn whilst watching fireworks erupting across the whole city through increasingly heavy snow falling. After Tallinn we moved on to Latvia’s capital, Riga where it was properly Baltic with strong winds, snowfall and double digit sub-zero temperatures. The mini Ds are great travellers in the sense they take their parents love of travel within their stride even when it involves flying to southern Spain for the night. Not every month will involve travel (since we’re locked in to school holidays now) but that’s an opportunity to explore places closer to home.
