A blog about adventures in style, motherhood, and life's unpredictability.
Working, exercising (we bought a squat rack, bench, weights, the whole thing), even socializing with play dates and, well, solo dates with myself trying to catch up with the Oscar-nominated movies after Frida is asleep. With limited contact with the outside world, it helps my self esteem quite a bit to shower daily and wear clothes during the day that I didn’t sleep in. And the sweats with their sassy lace-up front (also on sale! ) also give the impression that I still might be a fashion and style writer despite my infrequent ventures outside the home. I bought them to dance in the San Francisco Pride parade last year and haven’t worn them much since, so I will probably wear them again this year.
I hesitate to say it out loud, but I’m turning 50 this year. It wasn’t a bad year. So where is my new burst of energy that should come with the new year, especially considering the huge life milestone I’m about to face, as well as the enormous shift that will hopefully happen in the government in 2018 (let’s go midterms! ! ). I hesitate to even mention them because I’m terrified of failure, but keep an eye out on my Instagram feed, because I’ll be announcing a new project that I am excited about despite the slow burn nature of said excitement.
Maybe it’s the millennial pink phenomenon influencing me, or maybe it’s having a little girl, but I’m starting to really like pink. And with this photoshoot, I have pretty much surrendered to the idea of pink being an acceptable color in my world. This is probably my favorite photoshoot of 2017, and it feels like a great way to ring in 2018. Lipstick is Lilah B’s Divine Duo in B. Sassy—my current obsession and a Christmas gift from my thoughtful husband.
It’s that time of year when you don a really itchy wool dress and hang out at a pumpkin patch with your child who doesn’t want to share the giant bunny! but I have already been to three costume-required events and today there’s one more since it’s mercifully, finally, actually Halloween. I keep thinking about how Frida was having continual meltdowns, and how it got unexpectedly hot and this vintage wool dress got REALLY itchy and uncomfortable. I DO love this dress, which I purchased at Torso Vintages (which tragically closed its brick and mortar store in downtown San Francisco recently! ), and it’s super comfy when it’s not hot.
