Unbelieveably, the Native Americans dug up the corms of these plants to eat. Blue Dicks are often among the first plants to emerge after a fire because the corms can lie dormant for a decade or more to wait for space to grow. I'm looking forward to being able to plant more native species in my own garden. It has inspired me to plant more native plants so I can do my little part in support our natural and native ecosystem, from insects and bees to birds.

I'm really excited about the new exhibition opening this weekend at the Katonah Museum of Art : LandEscape. Landscapes have been the subject of artists for centuries but, by the early 20th century, they started to interpret these landscapes differently. In this exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to view significant landscape art from the early to mid-1900s in conversation with paintings made in the new millennium. It's a very interesting show that I hope you'll all be able to view.

I'm taking a break from my art quilting to make a baby quilt for my nephew. Oddly enough, it took me an inordinate amount of time to figure out what I wanted to do

I was pretty excited as I drew the pattern for a new quilt I wanted to make, using a photograph I'd taken of monarch butterfly caterpillars. And then I realized, I'd drawn something that couldn't be constructed. Or, I should say, I couldn't figure out a way to put it together. I still wanted to make the quilt, but figured I needed a different approach.
