I loved the idea of something so simple which would be useful to most people but, even more so, to someone who’s ill like me and can’t bake like they used to. The cake mix comes in a very simple box, which is the shape of a loaf tin, so you’ll immediately begin to realise that they really do mean ‘Bake in the box’. Dr Oetker have been thoughtful when designing these as the instructions are on the bottom of the box which is supremely unhelpful when you’re using the box to mix the cake, as such they’ve re-printed the instructions on the bag of mix which means that even once you start the process you aren’t trying to read the bottom of a box which is full of gloopy cake batter. We tried the Lemon & Poppy seed flavour a week or so later and the 5 minutes less baking time did wonders for the texture (As I say this was entirely down to our oven, a normal oven should be fine to follow the instructions).
It’s been a while since I did a general up date and, if you’re a regular reader, you’ll see it’s been a while since I posted much at all. I don’t want to go in to a lot of detail, it’s our business, but it’s been the expected levels of difficult and there’s a long way to go to adapt to life as a single parent again. But family and friends have been utterly wonderful, the kids are worth it all, and there’s an awful lot to look forward to in pretty much every aspect of our lives. but she wouldn’t want me to be on the medication that it requires so there’s not much point going any further with that yet.
The only down sides I’ve found, thus far, are that the phone is heavier than I’m used to (which would be the same with any new model) and the battery doesn’t last much longer than my old s7 did (but, again, bigger hardware means harder on batteries, plus I use my phones very heavily). When you get a new phone it can be quite tough getting a new case that you love because, to begin with, it seems like most manufacturers are making the most basic and practical cases and, if you’re anything like me, you want something pretty! Both of these cases are £29.99 which is a lot, but when you consider the technology involved in making them, if they adhere to their promises, it’s worth it when the phone that lives in the case is worth as much as it is. I used to be quite wary of cases that didn’t cover the front of the phone, too, but tempered glass screen protectors have made things a lot safer now and it’s nice to be able to get instant access to the screen.
The candle comes with a black obsidian stone set in to the wax, and that’s where you’ll find your word of wisdom once it’s melted down enough. When you burn the candle the scent travels well, but it’s not one that’ll fill the whole floor of a house like some do, it just subtly fragrances the room, but you really notice it when you walk in to a space. Now that I’ve checked the site I’ve seen that there’s four different options for the words and that’s probably my only criticism; it would be nice if there were more words of wisdom. I really like the idea behind Gemporia’s ‘Words of Wisdom’ candles.
