How HR Can Plan Ahead for the COVID-19 Vaccine

However, as more and more people get vaccinated, it’s important for HR to develop a plan now for the COVID-19 vaccine. One of the questions HR must consider is whether to make the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for returning to work in the office. Employees that did get vaccinated or that couldn’t due to a genuine exemption may not feel comfortable working with people who chose not to be vaccinated. Time off to both get the vaccine and to deal with the side effects of the vaccine could help employees who want the vaccine but don’t have time.

How to Select and Implement an HRIS You'll Love

You know, importing and exporting data into the general ledger is going to be key for them, but more importantly, involving your operations executives, helping them see how this new system won’t just benefit HR, but will benefit their managers, supervisors, as well as top executives to get access to key information, to better manage their team members, whether it be through apps and looking at absenteeism reports, looking at turnover and really identify ways that you can help improve their workflows and not just your own. And so asking those who are part of the implementation team from the software program to walk you through the software, once again, to show you where each of the fields that you are filling out on the import spreadsheet, where they’re located in the system and what information it drives is so critical so that you don’t have to do rework after the implementation process or during the testing process because you didn’t know what you were importing from that perspective. And then in addition to ensuring that the data is accurate and that you’re not uploading garbage into the system, it’s really setting up multiple training sessions, not only for your employees, but for your managers and your administrators and not just doing it right after the implementation process, but having a best practice or a manager training six months after to really go over those features that are a little bit more complex, that when someone’s just starting off using the system, they’re not going to remember all of those bells and whistles, but once they’ve actually started using the system, they’ve gotten used to it, it’s so much easier to provide those additional tools and resources and training to them so that they’re using the system at its maximum capacity. It happens at the beginning when we’re selling to our peers, this idea of a new system as well as all the way, like Mary said all the way, post-implementation where we’re following up to make sure that everybody’s maximizing their use of the system.

What Can HR Do if an Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19?

Allowing that employee to come into work will spread the coronavirus to other staff members and potentially shut down the entire office or location because too many people are sick. If the employee is sick and can’t work, it’s important to reassure them that there will be no repercussions for staying home. Depending on the company’s sick leave policy, some employees may feel that they have to come into work even when they’re sick. Clean Any Surfaces or Items the Sick Employee Has Touched If the employee who has contracted COVID-19 came into work after being exposed, make sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect anything that the employee has touched.

Should Your Employees Talk Politics in the Workplace?

That’s not possible at work, however, and talking politics could easily escalate into a full-blown argument. If your company is affiliated with the government, your employees may have the right to say or wear whatever they want at work, even if it carries a political statement. Since political discussions can interfere with productivity and are create a negative atmosphere in the office, you can still acknowledge that politics is on everyone’s minds while minimizing the amount of talk that takes place. The last thing you want is a hostile work environment, as that can lead to poorer work quality and loss of productivity.
