I write about travel, Italy and beyond. Lover of all things majestic: My husband's chest hair and the Capybara.
When it comes to animals and travel, it’s easy to find better alternatives with a little research. It’s convenient to take things at face value but the truth is that animal exploitation is lucrative so you have to dig a little deeper to ensure that what you’re doing is actually beneficial to the animals. Here are some tips on how to travel ethically: Book Tours with Family-Owned Operators or Locals: Honestly, not only is it better for the local economy but your experience is going to be a million times better if you’re tour is with a local family. I love to travel, you love to travel, but let’s face it, it’s not always great for the environment.
My FIL was staying with us for a month at the time (ONE MONTH. BEFORE MARRYING INTO AN ETHNIC FAMILY), and so for a month he yelled at F for going over cracks in the road too quickly because “he could hurt the baby. Now that I’m in my 2nd trimester and things seem to be going well for my little hitchhiker within, they’re excited and call to see my belly and give F advice on how I should take care of myself (including: don’t eat too much, don’t move/walk/breathe, and avoid spicy food). Although, they’re almost too excited because they also want to come to stay with us for ONE MONTH on my last month of pregnancy in hopes they’ll be at our house when I go into labor.
Something about needing to learn the language raised the stakes and the pressure and the next thing I knew I couldn’t construct a sentence in Italian correctly if my life depended on it. Learn the rules with a workbook instead of a microwave-sized textbook: You have to learn the rules otherwise your Italian (or Spanish, French, Chinese, Farsi, etc) will only progress so far. After all of this, you’ll find yourself at about an intermediate level and the best way to go from intermediate to advanced is by watching movies in the language you want to learn with English subtitles. If you don’t practice talking regularly your skills won’t really progress and you’ll perpetually sound like a toddler.
It’s a perfect place to take kids to show them animals outside of captivity, in the world, as the universe intended, but it’s also a really great place to go with your partner or friends. Some people like to do the entire park in the car and that’s fine, too. It’s also an excellent place to have early morning coffee, too (yeah, that would be ME, the half-naked lady in the jacuzzi at 7 a.m. with a cup of joe). First off, Yellowstone National Park is huge, roughly 3,471 miles huge, so if you want to see the entire park you’ll need at least a few days and some good hiking shoes to really explore it.
