I’m on my own, headphones in my ears with my favorite music playing, and I can’t help but to smile and look up to the skies and sweeping buildings above me. I’m wrapped up in my own world, and I’m the happiest girl in the world. in fact, that’s part of the beauty of it all), but I am saying that I’m pretty damn lucky to be living the life of my dreams. You’re not working at your best if you’re constantly working.
Ajarn Rung is a currently practicing monk, although even if your sak yant is performed by a layman monk, the wisdom and magic abilities are the same. You should note that there has been an emergence of tattoos that are aesthetically similar to Sak Yant tattoos, but this does not mean that they are traditional Sak Yant. It is not uncommon that the designs are copied (these are called Sak Lai), but the deep meaning that comes from a Sak Yant is not derived from the design alone. But a Sak Yant is created based off of a monk’s specific ideas for the blessing(s) you need, and my design was custom-crafted for me after an in-depth consultation.
In the past six years since launching my freelance career, I’ve done a lot of Googling, learning on the fly (and let’s be honest, re-learning on the fly), and building out systems to better manage my career. Think critically about when you should work for free, and also to use a service like Toggl to track your time (especially when you’re getting started) so that you have a realistic understanding of how much time a project takes you. By having an honest relationship with money, and staying on top of how it’s organized, your day-to-day stressors around monetary issues will dramatically reduce. It’s a big chunk, yes, but the fact of the matter is that I have to plan for taxes in advance (rather than just having them withdrawn from my paycheck), and I’ve had more than my share of surprises with things like medical expenses or unexpected emergencies while abroad.
In a world where overtourism has gotten so bad that it’s causing riots around the world, where the industry accounts for nearly 12% of global carbon emissions, and more tourism dollars are flowing outside of local communities than into them, it almost seems that the rapidly growing and ever-popular travel industry is a beast that cannot be controlled. When I started building Impact Travel Alliance, which has now become to the world’s largest community for mindful travel professionals, I had no idea how quickly the grassroots movement would take off. Through Jeremy’s thoughtful and progressive analysis of the industry, as woven throughout stories and examples from around the world, you can begin to understand why sustainable travel is the future of the industry.
