Cailin and Joe eloped with their families to the western coastline of Iceland, in a little black church on a foggy rainy day. They laughed and cried and held each other tight the entire time. It was such an honor to shoot these two’s story, from getting bucked off a horse on the beach to dancing around a bonfire to taking their blow up Penguin to his homeland the glacier lagoon to camping in a random park off the side of the road. I first heard of Leanne when I was looking for wedding dresses, she made the incredible gown I wore on my wedding day which connected us, of all things. Two and a half years later she and her man decided to escape to the big wide open high desert of Wyoming to exchange vows and decide to be with each other for ever. They were torn between a big fancy wedding in France with family and friends and eloping, which they ultimately decided to elope which was more than perfect. From finishing her dresses the morning of the wedding, to grocery store birthday cake as wedding cake, to getting married on “the most beautiful dump road in the united states”, this was their day through and through.
I’ve known Dawn for about a year through photographer (she’s an insanely talented photographer, her heart of gold shines through all of her work). When she asked Jay and I to document her and Dusty’s honeymoon in Banff National Park, it was like a dream come true. Everywhere we went Jay just kept saying “Banff is bamf” hahah. Dusty and Dawn and Zues (the goodest boy of all), we are so happy for you guys!
While we were in Iceland, a random couple I didn’t know came up to me who recognized me through following my work on instagram for years. Turns out, Hannah is a photographer as well who is coming to a workshop I’m teaching at this winter, and Zac had just proposed to her about 5 minutes before. I asked if they had any photos of their proposal and they said all they had was a grainy iPhone photo, so we ran out to the field he had just proposed to her in to grab a few quick photos to document their non-stop smiles.
