’s health and continuing to hear God’s direction in my life; grateful to be a mama to Charley and Madelyn and a wife to Jason; and grateful for being able to pursue one of my dreams this year. So just as an update in case you are new to following me or just maybe didn’t catch the news on social media, I opened an online boutique in June that focused on the main tenants that I share on my blog- faith and fashion. Every day brings something new with them, whether it’s a new discovery, a new laugh, a new word, or a new dance move- When I launched CharleyMadelyn online in June right in the midst of 2020 where everything was in question, social unrest, going through a global pandemic, I was so incredibly nervous about failing and thinking that maybe this wasn’t what God had planned for me and I just thought it was-
I have had the opportunity to partner with Piedmont Rising over the past few months to spread awareness of the lack of accessible healthcare in North Carolina. Piedmont Rising is a North Carolina non-profit dedicated to the values that North Carolinians care about, including the fight for more affordable and accessible health care. I can relate to the costs of healthcare with my personal journey as we incurred quite a lot of healthcare costs while Jason and I were on our fertility journey (or maybe say throughout). A few of your stories have included- your own personal story with healthcare costs regarding fertility treatments; having parents or grandparents that have to pay such high costs associated with Medicaid; or having a chronic illness that has resulted in high prescription drug costs.
That’s really all I know to say when I think of what’s going on and honestly what’s been going on so publicly and hidden under the rug for so long. Because you feel hope, whether it’s small or whether it’s strong, it’s there. I have seen this portrayed in my Black brothers and sisters that are fighting for their voice to be heard, I see this in the White Community and amongst non Black people of color as they try to learn from their mistakes and pledge to make a change and not to turn another cheek. ; I have hope that Non-Black people will ensure that they are fighting on our behalf; I have hope that the killings of Black people will stop.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to partner with Piedmont Rising and loved that you all have been following along as I shared with you our personal journey through infertility and also my intention to spread awareness of the extremely high costs that surround fertility treatments. Knowing the emotions that we were feeling during our journey, specifically in regards to fertility treatments, it is so disheartening to know that emotions are even more intense due to the coronavirus and questioning whether your fight to create your own family will expose you to the virus because of the lack of resources that are being provided from the current administration. Tillis- healthcare workers aren’t being provided enough resources such as personal protective equipment- to not only ensure their own personal safety but also to ensure that they are not putting North Carolinians at risk. Piedmont Rising is a North Carolina non-profit that is dedicated to fight for all North Carolinians’ rights for more affordable accessible health care, especially during times such as these.
