I'm Nicki Sizemore, a food writer, recipe developer, video host and educator. My mission is to help busy families get fresh, wholesome and downright delicious food on the table any night of the week. All of my recipes are naturally gluten-free.

I'm the author of Fresh Flavors for the Slow Cooker: Reinvent the Slow Cooked Meal (Storey Publishing, 2019), Build-a-Bowl: 77 Satisfying & Nutritious Combos: Whole Grain + Vegetable + Protein + Sauce = Meal (Storey Publishing, September 2018); and The Food Processor Family Cookbook (Sonoma Press, 2016). I'm also a contributor to Parents and Fine Cooking and am a video host and instructor for NBC Universal's streaming platform Bluprint. In addition, I appear regularly on the PBS series, Moveable Feast. My work has been featured in publications such as The Washington Post, Eating Well, AllRecipes Magazine, Parade and Taste of Home.

While I'm a trained chef and graduate of the French Culinary Institute (now called the International Culinary Center), I also have two young daughters and know first-hand the challenges of feeding our families (and picky kids)! I hope to help help alleviate some of that pressure, offering vibrant, flavor-packed and adaptable recipes that will appeal to all eaters at the table. After discovering that I had to cut gluten out of my diet after my first daughter was born due to a severe allergy, I also understand how tricky it can be to accommodate food restrictions. All of my recipes are naturally gluten-free and many can be adapted to satisfy other allergies or diets.

Today I speak with acclaimed Tuscan food writer and cooking teacher Giulia Scarpaleggia (@julskitchen) about how food sensitivities impact our identities, health, and well-being. Giulia is the author of six cookbooks, including her latest, Cucina Povera: The Italian Way of Transforming Humble Ingredients into Unforgettable Meals. Giulia describes her recent journey of having to cut dairy out of her diet after a three-year health struggle, which has not been easy as an Italian who loves cheese! While Giulia grew up in Italy (where she still lives) and I grew up in the US, you’ll hear how we have remarkably similar backgrounds in terms of how we each found our calling in food and also how we each navigated health issues after having our first child (for me, that resulted in having to cut out gluten twelve years ago).
