Happy Friday! 🎉 My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. Since my conversion to a plant based lifestyle, I typically have oats, fruit, chickpea omelette, fritters or pancakes. I’m always looking to add variety and try new things. I stumbled on these ancient grains called kamut during a recent detox. They are so good and so filling. During the detox, we could only eat designated foods from a list that included mostly #alkalineveggies. In the early stages of the detox, I felt like I searched for hours looking for recipes that fit my needs. Don’t get me wrong the @doctorholistic gave us a great recipe guide to follow but your girl wanted more 😬😘. That’s how my search began. I picked 1 item off our shopping list each day and would look for recipe options. I was bound and determined to find an alternative for oats because I couldn’t have those on the detox. And I fell on a recipe from @sedjedo called Superfood Kamut Granola. Honey!! When I say it’s good, I mean it’s tha 💣!!! I eat it alone or with homemade hemp milk. “The best part of my day is working with you.” I tell my clients that everyday when I’m working. My clients rock! For the last several months, I’ve been learning to sign through one of my clients. She’s not afraid to teach me and she makes it extremely comfortable to fail. I enjoy the learning process and wish I had continued to pursue sign when I was in grade school. Today, she went the extra mile this week to give me a sweet treat. 💖 Such a sweet gesture. (Pun intended.) “Create healthy habits, not restrictions.” -Unknown When I found out I had high blood pressure, I knew I didn’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life. Postpartum preeclampsia may have been the avenue, but I knew the affects could be long term. At that point, I decided to make some changes to my eating habits. I opted for a #plantbased lifestyle. I knew I had to give up meat to help heal my body, but I was concentrating so hard on the things I could no longer eat I forgot to focus on the things I could eat. Living healthy is a lifestyle change and takes time to develop. What helped me most was to recognize what I COULD change and NOT the restrictions. In the most simple form, I selected small things I can change and started there. You can do it too! As your changes become habits, set new goals and add additional changes. 5 Healthy changes/habits you can start today: 💦 Drink 1/2 your body weight in water daily. 🧖🏾 Make self care a priority. 🧘🏾‍♀️ Add at least a 20 min workout into your daily routine. 🥬 Eat more whole foods. 🛌 Get optimal rest. Concentrate on your gains from your changes/habits. A healthy habit is a smart investment into your personal self care. What healthy habits have you started this fall? To the woman reading this… Please know this. You can start over each morning! #swipeleft⬅️ I took some much needed time off. I needed to reset, recharge and renew my mind. This was VERY hard for me. As a wife and mom, often times I feel selfish taking time off. I KNOW I shouldn’t but to be honest I did and occasionally still do. When I take time off for reset and recharge, sometimes it’s hard to get back into the swing of things. It can be hard getting back to old routines. I realize how important the routines are but it can be challenging to get back on task. You can feel like it’s pointless to begin again especially when your need to get back in the flow of things has now taken 2 weeks to begin again. That doesn’t mean quit! Don’t let that thought consume you anymore. Sis! I’m here to remind you that you didn’t come this far to get this far! Honey, we’ve got goals to crush! You’ve worked hard to get to where you are. Wellness Wednesday Transparent moment. I was always expected to look different. Get bigger. Be more lean. Especially when I played collegiate basketball. I wanted to look and be like someone else. I wanted to look like other athletes at my level. I tried a lot of different things and most of it was eating all of the wrong things. Have you been there? Wanting your body to look like someone else’s? After a few babies, I did get a little bigger but I didn’t feel good. I was still eating like I was playing sports and often times worse. The older I got, I didn’t feel good. Constant headaches, exhaustion, even when I was sleeping I wasn’t resting. My body just didn’t feel “normal.” When I finally went to the doctor to try and get to the root of the problem, I realized I was doing it all wrong. I was trying to do what I thought I need to do to fit in the world’s idea of healthy by looking through part. He (God) created each of us to be different and look different and it was time to embrace that. My doctor gave me some hard truths. If I continued down the path I was going, I would put myself in danger. Stroke, heart disease or worse death. So I changed my ways and my goal. My goal isn’t to look healthy it’s to be healthy. AND be ok with what healthy looks like on me. When I saw this quote, I knew it was for me. It’s alright to have body goals but your health is the most important factor. Sticks, bird legs or curves don’t matter. It’s all about what your internal situation looks like. Is your BP under control? Are you having issues with your lady parts? Are you not sleeping well? Or do you feel tired all of the time? You could be living your best life looking the part without feeling the part. I don’t want to look like what society says I should on the outside especially if it’s gonna cost me on the inside. “Healthy is an outfit that looks different on everybody.” -Unknown Be YOUR best healthy self! NOT what society says you should.
