This is because outdoor physical activity helps kids develop healthy body figures that they can feel happy and good about. Aside from getting Vitamin D from the sun, kids also get plenty of exercise from outdoor play. Spending time outdoors also help kids unplug from excessive electronic screen time, which is the main cause of the early development of vision problems. There are still plenty of other benefits they can enjoy from outdoor activities, but they all lead to one end—developing a healthy mind and body.
Possessing less physical stuff to have freedom of living a quality life, to pay attention to what really matters. I was not living a mindful life and it felt like quality of my life was being compromised. If you do have some extra space in your house, do not fill it up with the things that you do not value and appreciate having in your life. Unless you are a super organized person and have a lot of time on your hands to maintain it, your extra stock has chances to hide behind the rest of the clutter and soon out of sight.
I had to keep talking to them about importance of donating those toys to the kids who might have no toys at all and need it the most. A person is able to pay attention to having enough and give more in life. Each day (or week) they think and write down about the things in life they are thankful for. At the end of the year, they take everything out of the jar and read about the positive experiences and things they felt gratitude for, during that year.
Our screen addicted new generation is exposed to mindless hours of screen time, over stimulating loads of toys, overscheduled with homework and activities. This is one reason boredom is better than screen time because screens keep children’s brains in constant state of hyper arousal. Mindfulness does not only provide benefit during those boredom hours, but one should intentionally set time to practice mindfulness (i.e. meditation) to reap the most benefit out of it. Instead of feeling guilty for not being able to entertain your child all the time, use such times as constructive opportunities.
