Without a doubt, the most wonderful blessing we’ve received since baby Neruda has arrived is the organization and fulfillment of a meal train. Over the last couple months we’ve learned that the beauty of homeschool lies in the freedom it provides and it’s important to note that some mornings we opt for the beach instead of our regular flow. and she was most into calendar time, we’ve dropped the morning circle and the boys begin their schooling when they’re ready to (so long as they start by 8am). While we still use Montessori materials to supplement math work, second semester called for Dimensions Math (by Singapore Math). Inevitably, all of these activities offers a chance to count (and perform other math operations), read, play I-spy, sing, retell stories and more.

At the beginning, help as needed but try to let the child take the lead–let them develop a sense of what their made bed looks like and what steps must be taken to get there. Since we’ve been homeschooling the keiki, we’ve had a full house most days of the week which means the dishes can pile up like crazy. To help combat this, we’ve shown our boys how the kitchen counters and sink can be kept clean if everyone just takes care of their own few dishes after each meal or snack. Unless they are helping prepare dinner, we expect the keiki to set the dinner table for everyone.

We needed a large shade structure to protect us from the elements and the ladies did a fabulous job of dressing it up with tropical flowers, colorful fabric garlands, and Mexican blankets. One of my favorite dishes, brought by my dear friend Julia, was a plate of “Hot Honey Local Sweet Potatoes” roughly based on this Bon Appétit recipe. Please bring 1-2 loose beads that remind you of Priscilla to string on her birthing necklace. I’ll be wearing this necklace and/or keeping it close during labor to soak in everyone’s love and support.
