35 years around the sun 🎂✨ It’s always important to remember that your birthday isn’t just a celebration. It’s about what we celebrate in our lives - so when we celebrate our birthday, we’re celebrating life. I’m ringing in 35 with the celebration of not only becoming closer to myself but also forming such beautiful relationships to everyone else in my life. Being able to celebrate life with everyone I love has been the biggest blessing and the greatest gift anyone could ask for. Swipe to see a few snippets of one of the tastiest birthday potlucks my love graciously hosted for me, and for everyone who came and contributed.❤️ If you know me, you know I love to eat 😆 so coming together and sharing delicious food was ✨magical✨ I love you all so much 🥰
Can you believe that these shoes are made out of pineapples?! 🍍 Not only are they made out of pineapples, but they also contain apples, grapes, cactus, and corn! 🤯 When I found out a shoe like this I exists I not only wanted them, I NEEDED them. As someone whose entire life and business centers around fruits and veggies, these shoes had to become a mainstay in my closet 🥰 (Did I mention they’re insanely comfortable too?). MoEa crafts their sneakers from upcycled fruit and vegetable waste, cotton, and recycled plastic, creating a biomaterial that is innovative, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free 🌎 This sustainable alternative to leather not only reduces waste but also minimizes the environmental impact of footwear production 👏🏼
✨Social media is not real✨ Having been in the social media game for nearly 15 years, it has connected me with some beautiful people but it also gives you a false sense of knowing people and connectedness. While I try my best to show up authentically on this app, that can sometimes be hard to convey over a screen. I thought it would be fun to put together a list of things that you probably wouldn’t guess about me from following me on social media. Can you relate to any? 1 - I worked in hospitals and labs while I was simultaneously building my business online. The disease and illness I witnessed really encouraged me to start writing about ways to fix it. 2 - I’m published in two science papers as part of the research I was involved in. 🔬 3 - My dad was a music fanatic growing up (100’s of records) and so my life was very music-focused 😅 I’ve had so many music phases but mostly love specific electronic genres. 4 - I’ve been professionally diagnosed as ADHD and/or CPTSD. The psychologist said it could likely be a combination of the two. I choose not to medicate but use food and certain supplements and self care routines to keep me on track as best I can. 🥹 5 - I grew up without religion. The forest was my religion. I’m a spiritual person and do believe there is something greater than just my flesh body. 6 - I was raised on a lake in a forest for 16 years of my life and cities make me highly anxious and annoyed. 7 - I am bisexual, and have dated both men and women and everyone in-between. 8 - I spent my entire 20’s sober. No alcohol for 10 years. I experimented again in my 30’s but quit again last year. It might be more of a few times a year thing if the occasion calls for it. 9 - I often ghost myself on this app because social media content creation is literally a full time job - and my full time job, which actually brings in the $$, is over on my website. Not here. 😅 10 - I start more projects than I finish. I love to paint and love to make art but I often start something and never complete it. Same goes for writing content for my website. 😆 Oh, and my last meal on earth would probably be a fruit board of cherimoya, Ataulfo mango and figs 😋
Are you eating these foods? 🍎🥬 You might want to make sure they’re organic. The EWG released their 2024 Dirty Dozen guide and these were among the worst offenders (including cherries - but they’re not in season and I couldn’t find them anywhere 🤭). If you choose to eat these foods, do your best at purchasing them organic, or maybe just skip them entirely. 🙅♀️ Studies have found that those who eat conventional diets have significantly higher levels of pesticide metabolites in their urine than do those who eat organic diets. Pesticide residues in the body can lead to a host of health issues including nervous system disturbances, infertility, hormonal imbalances, cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, behavioural issues, and much more. Agrochemicals not only affect the humans and livestock that consume them, but they destroy soil health, kill beneficial microbes and contaminate surrounding waterways and ecosystems. Remember this when you are told these farming practices are safe. And while organic farming isn’t perfect, it is a step in the right direction. ➡️ share with friends & family . . . . . . . . . #EWG #HealthyChoices #safe #food #diet #health #healthyliving #holistichealth #health #nontoxic #food #cleanesting #detox #viral #instagood #instadaily #pesticides #herbicides #dirtydozen
9 Fruits That You Can Find in Costa Rica 🌺🥭🇨🇷 One of the main reasons I like travelling to warmer climates in winter is for the fruit. To places where the pineapple doesn’t burn your mouth because it has been properly ripened and where the papaya actually tastes like how it’s supposed to 😆 Costa Rica has so much to offer in terms of fruit variety - especially if you know where to look and *what* to look for. In Costa Rica you don’t just get one variety of one fruit. You get multiple species to choose from, which means a very diverse nutrient and antioxidant profile. In order we have > cempedak > grenadilla > chocolate sapote > papaya > biriba > pineapple > dragon fruit > mango With some cicadas, toucans, and frogs playing in the background 😅 This was only a small slice of all the fruit I tried. There was too much to count! My favorite out of all of these is the biriba (rollinia) - mainly because it tastes like a lemon meringue custard inside. What is your favorite fruit to enjoy? Share below! ☺️ . . . . . #freshfruit #cempedak #papaya #dragonfruit #biriba #rollinia #grenadilla#chocolatesapote #mango #pineapple #livelovefruit #fruit
Nature’s Jacuzzi 🌺💦🇨🇷 I’ve been to many hot springs, but Tabacon really shattered my brain. Imagine natural rivers and waterfalls of hot water fed by the heat of a volcano that you can soak in all day long. The thing I loved most about Tabacon is that their water is natural - no added chlorine that would normally irritate your skin, eyes and respiratory system. Natural all the way 🌿
It’s been over 15 years since I took charge of my health and I can confidently say I’m in the best health and shape of my life. There have been some hiccups within that journey - life happens and stress seems to take a toll on your body far more than what one might seem to believe (I learned that the hard way). But as I navigate the damage of stress and learn to re-regulate my nervous system and hormones, I’ll always owe it to the fruits and veggies for being there for me. I went from someone who was chronically sick, inflamed, overweight and extremely fatigued to a strong healthy woman. Taking charge of your health is not a diet. It’s a lifestyle that will carry you through the years and support you in more ways than you could imagine ✨ Health is freedom and without it, we can’t live or enjoy our lives. How we nourish our bodies matters 🙌🏼 Who agrees?
A little over 2 years ago today my life looked a lot different (swipe to see ➡️). The end of summer 2021 I was waking up with hives on my body almost every morning. It followed shortly after a severe nut allergy I had in Vancouver, and the extreme stress it put on my body - life threatening anaphylaxis. I see the allergy attack as the last straw. My body was so over exerted by that point both mentally and physically and my nervous system was completely shot. At first I thought the hives would stop after a day or two, but they kept showing up. Day after day. For nearly 9 months. It wasn’t until the hives got so excruciatingly itchy and painful that I started fantasizing about what it would be like to just not be here. Living with a chronic illness is not for the faint of heart. But I managed an entire childhood of illness, nearly losing my life in Florida once, so if I made I through that, I could make it through anything, right? About 3 months into the hive journey I decided to go completely raw vegan again (my roots), started bi-weekly ozone therapy where they oxygenate your blood with an ozone machine (swipe to see the pic 👀), I did a huge parasite cleanse, took a number of necessary supplements, and made a litre of green juice every day. I was determined to get rid of these hives. I didn’t want to be on antihistamines for life. I didn’t want my illness to be a life sentence. I’m not entirely sure if it was the combination of healing that I did that helped, or if it was just time, but eventually I’d wake up hive free. That following summer I hiked more mountains than I had in my entire life. I wasn’t taking my life for granted anymore. Your health is quite literally your wealth. You could have all the money in the world but if you don’t feel good, what’s the point? My adrenals and hormones are still recovering from the stress my body had gone through, but each month is a step to something better. Each month I feel my energy levels come back stronger, and my cycles getting better and better (this was the first month I haven’t had horrible cramps in over 7 years 🤯). 2024 is going to be a good year ✨
2023 was such a beautiful year of coming back to myself and really getting to know me. It helped having all the beautiful by my side who understood where I was at and still supported what I needed to do to return to my baseline. You know who you are. Here’s to a fresh year of learning our lessons from the last, being honest about what you want and really making your health and well-being a priority. If you made any promises to yourself - keep them. You’ll be happy you did. More sleep, more fruit, more supportive friendships, more nature, more downtime, more slowing down, more nervous system healing activities, more water, more face masks, more massage, more hugs, more arts & crafts, more love, more kitty time, more activities with parents (they won’t be here forever), more exploring, more love (again). 💕✨
The glands that make up the endocrine system include the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, adrenal glands, gonads, (i.e., testes and ovaries), thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, and pancreas (1✓). The anterior pituitary gland secretes five hormones: leutinizing hormone (LH), follice-stimulating hormone (FSH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), growth hormone (GH) and prolactin. As a result, our brain signals the adrenal glands to pump out more hormones, like cortisol, which imbalances other hormones in the body, like insulin, leading to chronic inflammation (12✓). Learning how to balance your hormones naturally by eating an anti-inflammatory diet, getting enough sleep, exercising and stress management can all help bring your body back into a state of balance.
Combined test-tube and animal studies have shown how bromelain stimulates the immune system to produce molecules that make white blood cells more effective at inhibiting cancer cell growth and eliminating cancer cells altogether (12✓). May Reduce the Risk of Macular Degeneration Vitamin C has a high and effective antioxidant capacity that protects our cells and organs from free radical and reactive oxygen species. In addition, the nutrients in pineapple, like vitamin C and beta carotene, help reduce wrinkles, improve the overall appearance of your skin, and can lessen the damage from exposure to the sun. May Help with Asthmatic Symptoms As a natural antihistamine, pineapple juice can help reduce some of the symptoms associated with asthma.
One review suggests that thylakoids induce the release of several gut hormones at a time, promoting satiety and suppressing hunger, leading to loss of body weight and body fat (4✓). At the same time, it also reduces your levels of ghrelin, the hunger hormone (6✓), (7✓), (8✓). Some animal studies suggest that acetic acid can help promote weight loss by lowering blood sugar levels (11✓), decreasing insulin levels (12✓), improving metabolism (13✓), reducing fat storage (14✓), and suppressing appetite (15✓). Whether you’re looking for a delicious green smoothie to add to your weight loss routine, or you’re simply looking for some added smoothie inspiration, here is a recipe to keep you satisfied:
