I want to start by saying that I love when an author not only writes an amazing self-help/motivational book; but also includes relatable stories from actual people. Books like these make you realize you are not alone in your feelings and everyoneโs idea of the โperfectโ body is not the same, and that is ok. It saddens me because most people that are anorexic arenโt even fat, but have endured mental abuse to where they think they are; or listening to society and what they deem to be the โperfectโ body or look. Accept who and what you find I used her methods in my own everyday life and now just for weight issue, but for my overall wellbeing.
The author talks about 7 principles: alignment, focus, joyful expectancy, having, loving, surrender, and action. Each principle has its own chapter, where the author goes more in depth on what each principle means and how we can use that principle to help us manifest all that we desire. This book helps you discover yourself and your wants and how you can use energy and spirituality to manifest everything your heart desires. I re-envisioned why I wanted what I wanted and created new goals on how I was going to get, manifest, it.
The author wrote the book from the petโs perspective, something I have not seen before. She is certified in Pet Loss & Grief Companioning and the founder and owner of Mourning to Light Pet Loss providing individual and family counseling for anyone grieving the loss of a pet. Having grown up on a farm, Leigh Annโs childhood playmates included baby calves, horses, bunnies, dogs, and 32 cats that set up house in a boxcar that also served as her playhouse. Leigh Ann and her husband, Andy, live in Loveland, Colorado, and are the proud parents of identical twin daughters, Heather and Heidi.
As someone who grew up around addiction and has what I like to call the addiction gene, this book hit home. They say certain traits can be inherited, and I do believe addiction is one of them, which is why I chose not to drink, smoke, or try not to take medication of any kind. Addiction doesnโt only affect the addict, but those close to the addict as well. The book goes through a journey into Tashaโs past to see how and when she became addicted to drugs, but sometimes the answer doesnโt exist, or itโs a truth we donโt want to face.
Rating ๐๐๐๐๐ โBe yourself. Let that be your guide. Every animal has special traits. The difference is what makes this office great. I donโt want you to change to be someone youโre not. I hired you because of the skills that youโve got.โ I want to start by saying the illustrations in this book are excellent. The artist has done a fantastic job bringing the authorโs words to life. My kids and I enjoyed reading this book. * * * * The story centers around Gator, the alligator, and his first day on the job. He is nervous and is feeling out of place in his new work environment. As Gatorโs feelings get the best of him, we start to meet the rest of his coworkers: Fred the slug and a thirty-year vet, Dog who is a people pleaser, Hawk the ambitious one, and Mrs. Lebook, the chicken who loves to gossip. * * * * Love the story and the message it's telling. Rating ๐๐๐๐๐ "Set the tone and model for your kids the proactive, responsible way to communicate impactfully. Everything in this book is gold and true. Parent-teacher communication is vital if a child is to truly succeed. ((A little story time)) I have two kids. My son is eleven, and my daughter is six. My son has always been an honor roll student, but his first couple of years in school were rough. In Kindergarten, he did not speak for the first half of the year. I was not aware of this because he would recite everything he learned that day when he came home. His teacher calls me (for the first time) for a parent-teacher conference when it was three months left in school. Here is where she expressed her concerns for the first time. For example, she did not know he could count past ten. I had to nake him count to a hundred so she could see that he could. She was genuinely shocked. Fast forward, she passes him. He gets to first grade, and within the first week, his new teacher expresses her concern about his performance academically. He was was not ready for first grade and he got put back in Kindergarten. From then on, he has been the top student in his class every year since. The communication Meredith stresses in the book between parent and teacher and parent and child is crucial in a child's journey. The tips and tricks she offers has worked wonders for my household. I highly suggest everyone reads this book. Rating ๐๐๐๐๐ "You guys arenโt always going to agree on the same things but, if the friendship is worth it, then you will come to an understanding and tolerate each others decision." - Kimberley B Jones, Our Friendship Matters This book was an excellent insight into how the actions of others affect someone else. If we take the time to listen to one another, stop turning a blind eye, and start understanding, we can begin to see change and real change. Full review on my blog... "The wound would finally disappear from her skin, but not from her soul" Rating ๐๐๐๐ This book follows Rebecca Quinn as she journey's through life, love, healing, and self-discovery. With the help of her aunt she escapes an abusive marriage and runs away to an Inn located in the Tonto National Forest. There is where her healing begins and where she finds love, but happiness doesn't last forever and now Rebecca has to learn how to face her problems head on and put an end to it once and for all. Friendship and domestic violence are heavy themes in this book. The boom can get kind if dark when discussing abuse, but it done in a respectful manner. Rating ๐๐๐๐ The novel is told from all three of the main charactersโ perspectives, which I enjoy. You get a small insight into how they see things, where their minds are, and get a feel of the characters themselves. Itโs a slow burn, but the slow space is for the reader to understand the back story and why things got to the point in which itโs at. Whatโs not said is about the things we donโt share, the lies weโve told, and learning that communication is always best. Rating ๐๐๐๐ "What I did determined who I was, not what I looked like or what I liked. My actions and reactions. Did I emerge from the shell? I felt naked and free. Was I now pupa or chrysalis? I felt like myself and that was what punk was. The freedom to be who I was unapologetically, even if I hadn't chosen it." I'm not normally into Autobiographies or Memoirs, but this was a great read. This book has been on my shelf for a while (ARC), but I'm glad I waited until now to read it. Phuc Tran moved to America with his family at the age of 2. By the time he started school he, along with his brother, were the only asians in school. He endured a lot of racism and bullying, and because of that he grew to hate himself and his Vietnamese culture... Feeling alienated, even at home. Throughout the book he learns to discover who he is and where he fits in society. "Punk" changed his life in a way. It helped him to find who he was as a person, accept that reality, and live unapologetically. My only issue were the titles of each chapter. They were named after classics, and being a lover of classics, and I didn't always catch the connection. He could have delved into the theme driven titles a little more. It was a lot of hits and misses. Other than that great book. โ โ โ #SighGone #PhucTran #FlatironBooks #Autobiography #MondayMemoirs #MisFits #Punk #BookBlogger #Bookstgram #BookReview #BookEnthusiast #ArcReads
Rating ๐๐๐๐ "The fact is: I'm a SURVIVOR. I'm the leftover. The lucky one. The only one in that room who lived." This book is a dual-point-of-view and is aboutย what happens to those who survived after one individual kills everyone in a classroom. The book centers on May and Zack, two high school students, and classmates of the shooter. It's beautiful to witness how their relationship forms from connecting the dots of their connection to the love they soon come to have for the other. Misery never wants to be alone and it in fact does love company. Sometimes, when dealing with trauma, it's good to have a least one friend. "For the masterโs tools will never dismantle the masterโs house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change. Racism and homophobia are real conditions of all our lives in this place and time. I urge each one of us here to reach down into that deep place of knowledge inside herself and touch that terror and loathing of any difference that lives here. See whose face it wears. Then the personal as the political can begin to illuminate all our choices."โAudre Lorde #blackouttuesday #audrelorde
"Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not draw from within us."โ Maya Angelou, Wouldn't Take Nothing for My journey Now โข โข โข I had to take a break, much needed long break. I started this page as a project to apply what I was learning while I was in school. I never knew it would grow into what it was. At first it was fun, using my page as an outlet to share what I was going through or journal my thoughts and such., but then it got a little overwhelming and my anxiety was at an all time high. I posting multiple times a day, trying to open up more than what I was ok with, getting a boat load of dms ( I love hearing from everyone I just can't reply back to all ), others reaching out asking how I grew my page, small brands reaching out, I was in school, writing on the side, working full-time, working, part-time from home, and I'm a single mom of two.... it became too much. I decided to step away for a while. Relax and Recharge. If anyone is ever feeling overwhelmed by anything, step away and take a break. Nothing wrong with that, the only downside is that I lost a lot of followers, but it was worth regaining my peace. โข โข โข โข #SlowDownSundays #SelfCareSundays #RelaxAndRecharge #UnplugAndUnwind #AnxietyIsReal #SelfHealing #SelfDiscovery #RoadToPositivity #Hiatus #MentalHealth #BookQuotes #MayaAngelou #TheFlowerChild
