I am a mom of two and wife to a martial arts school owner, full-time social media professional and avid cook and gardener. I love creating recipes and involving my kids in the process. The food we cook is usually (but not always) gluten-free. The “hippie” part of this blog comes into play in the ingredients we use—I’m pretty vigilant about the health of my family and you could even call me “crunchy.” The “modern” part is that I am busy! You won’t catch me making my own nut milk or churning butter (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I’m more than happy to take the shortcuts provided by our lovely grocery stores and online shopping —especially in the midst of this global pandemic.
Need a healthy side dish? Try these beet and carrot fries! All I did was peel and slice the beets and carrots, toss in about two tablespoons avocado oil and coat with sea salt and steak seasoning. Bake about 40 minutes at 400, flipping halfway through. This may be the perfect drink for a large group! This is my take on white sangria, though it came out looking pink due to the fruit. Recipe below! For a really cute drink dispenser copy this #affiliatelink or visit the link in my bio: https://shopstyle.it/l/buxbv Pour one large bottle of white wine (I used a Pinot Grigio) into a large drink dispenser. Add about 3/4 cup brandy, 1/2 cup amaretto, 1/4 cup simple syrup, and frozen fruit of your choice. I used peaches, grapes and berries. Add about a half cup lime juice, and then one large (50 oz) bottle of @topochicousa and give it a good stir. Then slice whatever citrus is your favorite (I used a blood orange and two Cara Cara oranges) and drop the slices into the mixture. #whitesangria🍹 #cocktsilsofinstagram #whitewinerecipe #foodblogger #cocktailblogger
Last night I sent the kids out to the garden to grab some herbs for dinner, and we found three pickling cucumbers ready for harvest! So of course I had to make pickles. I sliced them, along with some jalapeños and carrots, made a mixture of 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 3/4 cup water, two tablespoons sugar and one tablespoon salt, heated it until dissolved and then poured it on top of the veggies. I added a big handful of chopped fresh dill and a couple tablespoons of garlic. It came out very tasty... I can’t wait until my red onions are ready so I can add them next time! I posted a #remix of this recipe on my reels yesterday, but couldn’t resist sharing this photo since I sacrificed some of my pansies for it! This recipe was the drink of choice for @courteneycoxofficial on Cinco De Mayo but I made it for Mother’s Day and added a jalapeño to the mix. Here’s the recipe (for two) 2 inches of ginger, juiced Juice of two limes One jalapeño (juiced with the ginger) 4 oz @sacrificiomezcal or tequila of your choice 1 tablespoon agave (I used cane sugar!) Shake it all over ice and add sparkling water to top off to taste. Happy drinking! . . . #cocktailsofinstagram #mezcalcocktails #gingercocktail #gingerrecipes #foodblogger #fundrinks
A giant rainbow cake is the tradition for my daughter’s birthdays (and in the chaos I didn’t get a photo of the inside of this cake) but this year I decided to up the anty with the sprinkles. Let me tell you ... I do not recommend this! There are still sprinkles coming out of the woodwork in the kitchen. The kids liked it though. #cakesofinstagram🎂🍰 #cakeofinstagram #birthdaycakeideas
We had a birthday party for our seven-year-old last night and let’s just say we definitely did not eat healthy. Pizza and cake were on the menu and we partook. This morning we felt like having something super healthy (and I just got an @ninjakitchen blender and wanted to test it out!). This green protein smoothie kind of tastes like a creamsicle and was incredibly filling. Recipe below: For two 16 oz smoothies: Two scoops vanilla flavored grassfed whey protein Two scoops unflavored @neocell collagen About half a cup frozen banana slices About a cup of frozen mango chunks 3/4 cup plain yogurt (I use full fat Bulgarian style) 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 cups @silk coconut milk 2 scoops spirulina powder Blend thoroughly and enjoy! If so inclined, drink out of a beautiful holographic glass like the one pictures from the @shoprachelzoe collection. PS—the ninja did not disappoint! As promised, we did a quick blender #dairyfreeicecream yesterday! I added #grassfed gelatin, which makes it less icy after freezing and adds some nutrients. This version has banana and coconut flavors, but you can easily sub that for the fruit and flavoring that you like better! Swipe right for the whole recipe. . . . . #icecreamofinstagram #dairyfreerecipes #dairyfreeicecreamrecipe #coconutmilkrecipe
