The Golden Goose was installed in its original location in 1975, which was on the top of the Golden Goose Casino. Back then, the property was located at 20 Fremont Street. It remained there for 42 years until its nest was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new casino project. Update!!!!! Gemini Giant sells for $275,000 and will stay in Wilmington! The giant was purchased by the Joliet Area Historical Museum and donated to the City of Wilmington. The American Giants team is moving him now. He is going for a few repairs. 😀😀😀😀 Doing the happy dance now!

Chenoa Pharmacy began as Schuirmann’s Drug Store in 1889, founded by Tido “Carl” Schuirmann and Henry Hops. Hops sold his share of the business in 1909, Carl’s daughter Emma and her husband took over the store upon his death in 1930. The building still retains the original wood floors, detailed wooden cabinetry along both side walls, and tin ceiling. Poster sized photos of the original store line the top walls. Since its beginning in 1889, Chenoa Pharmacy has only had 4 owners. The Schuirmann Family as detailed above followed by Wes Harris until 1978, Dan Boian from 1978-2015, and most recently and currently Rob Taveggia. Another great stop on Route 66. It’s sign Sunday. The sign has a large letter A in a circle at the top, with “Motel” written vertically down it. Near the bottom of the word motel is the cryptic saying, “Llamas Stay for Free”, which is above a joke that changes. This is the site of the former Ambassador Motel.the sign has been there since 1950’s Originally the property was The Ambassador Apartments built in 1930 by Sam Mikulich, later called the Ambassador Auto Court, and by 1952 the Ambassador Motel. In the 1960’s it was bought by Jackie Gaughan, famous owner of Las Vegas properties including the El Cortez and one time owner of an estimated 25% of Downtown Las Vegas. He renamed the property Jackie Gaughan’s Ambassador East Motel, and had a casino added. The Ambassador closed in 1996, the land was sold in 2004, and the building was bulldozed in the last half of 2007, all except the sign. It was completely restored in 2013, only the entire area where “Jackie Gaughan’s Ambassador East” was located has been replaced with the phrase “Llamas Stay for Free”. Getting my Kicks on Route 66. Another cool Route 66 town. Matthew T. Scott, an early settler of this township, came from Kentucky whose Indian name was Chenowa. Scott wanted to name his new home by that name, but it was entered on the government records as Chenoa, and thus remained. Settlers began to locate here after the Chicago & Alton railroad was constructed about 1854. Not much left of the arrows🥲 Due to high winds, one of the arrows appears to have fallen and been removed some time between February 15th and 22nd 2022. The foot plate and wooden footing still stand but the second arrow is no longer there.
