We are Jeff and Crystal, a couple who love exploring this big blue marble we all call home. After spending the first portion of our lives together raising a family, the empty-nest syndrome finally caught up with us. This has given us the opportunity to spend more time traveling and seeking out new destinations. We developed this website with the goal of showing how we “Visit Like A Local”. Our itineraries are designed to get us off the interstates, and into the heart of the places we visit. We believe this will allow our readers to choose a cultural experience, and eventually head home with a real flavor of the places they visit. While the home was originally just a single-room cabin, later additions brought it to the stately two-story that we found during our visit. It was amusing to discover that by the time she earned that certificate, she had already set a world record for female pilot altitude. Finally, 1937 brought her attempt to complete the first round-the-world flight by a female pilot. While the world may never know exactly what occurred in the skies over the wide-open seas, you can be sure that the world will never stop its search for Amelia.
One that evidently felt it best to let 2020 pass by is Va Bene Italian Eatery, at 8232 Mission Road. The Tito Lito is a delicious combination of Tito’s Vodka that has been infused with house-made Limoncello and fresh lemons. When we do a Happy Hour, it usually ends up being a fusion between their special menu and the regular meal options. With a menu filled with plates of pasta, sandwiches, and grilled entrees we chose one of our favorite Italian dishes, pizza.
For those carving out the road in sections, you will likely find at least one Route 66 museum during your trip. A stop at the Route 66 Museum in Lebanon, Missouri was another chance to piece together the history of this road. This display case at the Route 66 Museum reminds us of the struggles that faced many of those early day road warriors. Part of the fun of a Route 66 road trip is picking a couple of these stops for an overnight stay.
While this town is filled with plenty of German cuisines, we were anxious to sample a newer restaurant named Doxie Slush. Even with these limitations, we found plenty of time to enjoy the local history museum. Obviously, it had run into delays at another station, so we found ourselves with a little extra time on our hands. Watching as the day waned, we thought back to the time we had spent in Hermann.
