Davie Street Park is a small community park located near Transfer Co. Food Hall. The playground has minimal shade, but the nearby picnic shelter can give you a respite from the heat on a hot summer day. A little park history for you, according to the City of Raleigh website Davie Street Park was dedicated to Lucille Hunter in 1927. Nearby Hunter Elementary was named after her, and she was the first African American teacher to have a school named after her in North Carolina!
It’s a great place for a Spring photo op or just a fun place to frolic in the flowers! As you can see in the photo below, it’s not a full field of flowers, but at the right angle you can still get some great photos! During our first failed attempt to find the daffodils, we initially followed our GPS to The Grove at Dix Park. Dix Park is turning out to be a great spot to visit during the Spring months.

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is very similar to Marbles Kids Museum, but I love how they incorporated their beach location and history of pirates into the exhibits. Your kids can climb aboard a pirate ship, explore under the ocean, learn about the water cycle, pretend to captain a submarine, and have loads of fun in the process! The museum is located in an old, historic building just like Imagination Station in Wilson, so it wasn’t specifically designed for a children’s museum. n’t have as many pictures as I would like of this fun space, so I recommend giving it a go and checking out the Children’s Museum of Wilmington yourself!

Can you tell we've been spending a lot of time in Knightdale lately? 😆 We discovered the Mingo Creek Trail that runs along a small creek until it reaches the Neuse River trail in Raleigh. Once social distancing requirements are lifted, there's also a playground at the trail entrance! The police K-9 training course is there too, so you might even get to see the dogs in action! Here's another great place to take a walk, which I think we're all doing a lot of to fill the time! I had heard about the walking trail behind East Regional Library in Knightdale, but I didn't realize it was actually an entire park! Here's something to look forward to! 🍓 Strawberry picking will start in the next couple weeks at lots of farms around the triangle! Since they are agricultural, they have been deemed essential and will still open for U-pick strawberries, with a few extra precautions like hand washing stations and social distancing requirements. Here's our list of strawberry farms and a map to find one near you! Let us know if we've missed any! https://www.raleightotspots.com/strawberry-picking-in-the-triangle/
The local public pools probably won't be opening for a while, so this might be a great time to get your own backyard pool! We just got ours setup today and the kids had to try it out, even though it was way too cold for this mom! This one is perfect for little swimmers since they can comfortably touch the bottom!
