National Breastfeeding Week! 🥛🩷 When Hunter was born it was a traumatic experience and I wasn’t able to even see him or hold him for a whole day and a half so once I was able to try to nurse - he wasn’t having it. He would not latch! I’m thinking because they had already given him a bottle and a pacifier. I tried everything possible and even went to see a lactation specialist. It was such a hard choice but I decided I would try to pump and give him as much breast milk out of a bottle that I could. I was unaware of how much you actually had to pump to keep your supply up… so this only lasted maybe a few weeks before my supply dried up. When Lila was born it was SO much easier because I was able to see her and try to nurse her right away! It was a struggle at first because she would fall asleep while ON the boob and I was always worried she wasn’t getting enough. AGAIN, I did research and saw a lactation specialist and we had decided to try to pump in between her nursing sessions. I had NO idea how hard it would be. I wanted to quit SO many times. I was having to nurse her, pump, then give her the bottle… again and again and again. Not to mention having to set alarms and wake up every 2-3 hours throughout the night to pump so my supply would stay up. It was rough. But, anytime I wanted to quit I told myself I did not make it this far and try SO hard to just quit. Although it was rough sometimes, she finally got the hang of it and would ONLY want “DA BOOB” lol 😆 My goal was to reach 1 year. We went for 2.5 years!!!! I had tried to stop her a few times but she would fight me and cry and cry so I always gave in. The ONLY thing that got her to stop was when I got pregnant with our third (we miscarried 💔) and we told her that the NEW baby will need mommy’s milk and now that she’s a big girl she doesn’t need it anymore. It worked like a charm and my big girl stopped herself. Breastfeeding is a beautiful journey, filled with special moments of bonding and nourishment. When I think back to all the times I almost quit I am so happy I didn’t. It is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. 🥇🩷🥛 #nationalbreastfeedingweek #breastfeedingmama
