as plus-sized people, we've all been here. you get an ad for a ridiculously cute top/bottom/dress. deep down, you know they won't carry your size, but you have that glimmer of hope that maybe just maybe— they'll have you size. you click the ad anyway. shocker! they don't carry your size. instead you see the "norm" for all these aesthetic websites which is: small, medium, and large. maybe there's XL, or even XXL. heck, maybe even 1X! but that's not enough. brands need to understand that carrying a few plus sizes does not make them "size inclusive" because there are still people out there missing out on the chance to wear your clothing. the arguments for this are typically: - insufficient funds - no knowledge on how to make plus size clothing - or that it is just difficult and i know we all know the frustration of going in-store and not finding our size because — surprise! — it's online only. we deserve to have easy access to clothing just like straight-sized people do. did you know that only 8% of fashion brands carry plus-size options? ONLY 8% !!! and considering nearly 70% of american women alone are plus-sized— that's not even counting the rest of the world or people who aren't women — i tried researching a broader number but so many different results came up), that is not nearly enough. brands & businesses: do better. be better. stop only catering to less than half of the population. we would be more than happy to support you, but it's hard when you don't support us enough to consider carrying our sizes.
this year has been rough, that's not news to anyone. we all dealt with a lot, including being forced to deal with a whole new reality. it's been difficult, but you made it through. we all did. i wanted to say i'm proud of each one of you, including myself, for continuing on, for waking up another day. we are all strong, even if we don't feel like it. despite being rough, 2020 also gave me a lot of good memories and a lot of firsts. i'm thankful for everyone in my life, i'm thankful for all of you who continue to support me and have been there for me. you all mean so incredibly much to me, and i cherish you deeply. here's to 2021: a new year. you don't have to be a new you, because the you now is just fine. you don't need to lose weight or glow up. remember that you are beautiful as you are. and if no one has told you today: i love you.
