The Way to Churchill Downs

Shotski went wire-to-wire in the 2019 Remsen Stakes, fighting off a hard-charging Ajaaweed in the closing yards to win the 2-year-old Derby prep. Jockey Luis Saez took the son of Blame to the front immediately and held a close lead on Chase Tracker and Prince James, respectively. The colt stretched his lead to four lengths entering the homestretch, then held off the favored Ajaaweed to win by a half-length. It was the second win in four starts for Shotski, who earned an 86 Beyer as well as 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby.

Silver Prospector took advantage of Tiz the Law’s troubles on the backstretch, wrestling the lead from longshot New Eagle in the stretch and held off the favorite to win the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. The light gray son of War Front was set up nicely for a run at the finish, unlike Tiz the Law, who was pinned on the inside for most of the race. At the start, Dennis’ Moment, stumbled badly, going to his knees as track announcer Frank Mirahmadi was the only one who got the call right as the colt trailed the pack going into the clubhouse turn. As they reached the far turn, Eight Rings failed to fire and faded, leaving 25-1 shot Anneau D’Or to challenge Storm the Court for the lead, with 39-1 shot Wrecking Crew coming between horses for third. Dennis Moment seemed to rush out too quickly and failed to grab the Santa Anita surface.

The Champagne Stakes may be one of the more prestigious 2-year-old prep races of the year, but Maxfield turned in one of the most impressive performances of the year in the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland today. The son of Street Sense was next to last along the backstretch but slung his way around the far turn, overtaking the field and setting his sights on the favorite, Gouverneur Morris. In the prestigious Champagne Stakes, Tiz the Law overtook Gozilla and favorite Green Light Go in the stretch to notch a win for the famed Sackatoga Stable – the same group that owned 2003 However, one of the members of Sackatoga Stables told Daily Racing Form that Tiz the Law wouldn’t be making the trip to Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup
