📚 All Black Errything Library 📚 #RepresentationMatters One of my sister’s coworkers overheard her proudly asking for recommendations for new black children’s books (she’s supplied all that’s pictured here and more) and asked, “So, is your nephew only going to know black authors and black books”? 😏#microaggressionrealness My sister’s response : “ No. My objective is to expose him to books and authors he won’t see in school. The majority of what he’ll be exposed to are books and authors that are not black”. . . All children will benefit from diversity in children’s books. We always hear about the benefits for children of color, but the reality is that there is a benefit for everyone involved. Exposing children to diversity in reading will allow them to accept, properly handle, and flourish in our increasingly shrinking world. This, in my opinion, is pivotal to their development. So we did a thing this weekend. WE HAD OUR FIRST OVERNIGHT WITHOUT OUR SON..SINCE 👏🏾 HE’S 👏🏾 BEEN 👏🏾 BORN 😳 He’s 2 y’all.. . . I had super-attached first baby syndrome (I made that up) and feared how he’d sleep without me..and truly how I’d feel being separated from him (Yes, co-sleeping and nursing were major components of the separation anxiety) . Truth is, he was just fine, slept through the entire night, and had a blast at his grandparents! . And mom and dad had a much needed staycation to reconnect and get out on the town . So, I’m noting in 2020, to step out of the fear box and do what makes the most sense for our lives...because it’s often an easier feat than I work things up to be. .
