Happy National Pasta Day! It's always interesting to see which foods get their own holidays 😅 But I have to emphatically agree that pasta deserves its very own day. Not only does it come in so many different varieties (although clearly I have some favorites!), but it can be used in so many different ways. If you're looking for a delicious way to celebrate #NationalPastaDay or even just a quick dinner (another thing pasta is good for!), check out some of my favorite recipes in the comments below. Shabbat Shalom & Happy Friday! It always puts me in such a good mood to see pumpkins popping up everywhere - it's almost like my own personal Hidden Mickey for the fall 🥰 and it always puts me in the mood for pumpkin flavored everything - including challah! Filling my challah with a combination of pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spices, and maple syrup makes for the ultimate fall challah 🍁want to try it out for yourself? you can find my basic challah recipe here: https://the-jewish-vegan.com/go-to-recipes-easy-fluffy-vegan-challah/ #vegan #veganism #veganfood #veganlife #vegansofig #veganrecipes #veganfoodshare #jewishvegan #jewishlife #shabbat #challah #veganchallah #shabbatshalom
Have you ever wanted to cuddle with sheep? You might be able to tell from the pure joy on my face, but getting to hang with the residents of the White Pig Bed & Breakfast was definitely on my bucket list 🥰 I got to spend an amazing weekend there and met some wonderful animals who live at the sanctuary there, including the FRIENDLIEST sheep ever, Clyde. If you’ve never been to an animal sanctuary before I really encourage you to see if there’s one that offers tours near you. It was after I did a photojournalism project for which I chose to visit an animal sanctuary for the first time (shout out to @piedmont_farm_animal_rescue) and document the human and animal interactions that I fully committed to going vegan. While I went into the project aiming to capture the ways that humans interacted with the animals, what I really took away for the first time was how unique each animal is with their own personalities, likes and dislikes, habits, and quirks. The way I relate to animals was changed forever for the better ☺️ What are some of your favorite animal sanctuaries? Give them a shout out below (include where they are located so folks can see if there’s one nearby them!)👇🏻
Have I ever mentioned before that my favorite season is Fall? 🍂 Between the beautiful changing scenery, the cool, breezy weather, the fall flavors and scents, and Halloween, what more could you ask for? And there’s nothing better than sitting outside with a warm drink on a Fall day - so cozy 🥰 I was able to sip on a Matcha Latte from @barkingmadgaithersburg and just take in the beauty of the day. What are your favorite Fall flavors and foods? Let me know below 👇🏻
Shabbat Shalom & Happy Friday y’all! How have you been? ☺️ I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus, so hello to old friends and new 👋🏻 as I’ve been moving through the high holidays this year, I’ve been thinking a lot about my life and the things I want for it. Every time I do this, cooking and baking and @thejewishvegan is on the list. My life is wild right now with so many huge life projects I’m tackling (and maybe I can chat about those in a future post 😉), but one thing I know is that I always have this yearning to return. And I have been blessed in my life with opportunities to return: return to Judaism, return to old friendships over and over again, return to old hobbies and interests. And I am able to teshuvah - Hebrew for “return” - to this, now. And I couldn’t think of a better post to return with than with my DIY Sukkah 🥰 for so many years, I thought I would never be able to celebrate Sukkot, particularly over the pandemic, because I lived in an apartment and didn’t have any outdoor space. But about two years ago, I created my indoor Sukkah for the first time, and I was able to make Sukkot special for me and my partner. So, whether you don’t have the outdoor space, the climate isn’t right, or it just makes sense for YOU to be inside, you can find the instructions for my DIY Sukkah on my blog (link below). And in the meantime, I’d love to hear in the comments below what you are returning to this year!
I’ve had a lot of new folks join me over Hanukkah so I wanted to say hi 👋🏻 and welcome! And I also wanted to talk a bit about why I created my Instagram & blog for everyone who’s new here ☺️ you’ll notice that for almost all of my recipes, there are tips and tricks and encouragements to make the recipes your own - that’s because a big reason for creating The Jewish Vegan was to create a love of cooking and baking in others. I used to be afraid of being in the kitchen - always worried I would mess something up. And wow, have I messed some things up (I should make a post about the gluten free cake I tried to make that turned into soup 😅). But as I spent more time cooking and baking, I found that being creative in the kitchen was freeing and fun AND I got to make dishes that I really loved and suited me. SO that’s why you’ll see me telling you to experiment with my recipes and try new things. That’s what I did with my own recipe here - I got some new mini bread pans and I wanted to try out @paschachocolate white chocolate chips in my vegan banana bread recipe (link to recipe: https://the-jewish-vegan.com/easy-vegan-banana-bread/). It turned out so delicious! The white chocolate added a creamy sweetness that the semi sweet chocolate chips don’t usually add ☺️ and, if you’ve been following me fit a while, you know I love mini foods so these mini loaves were right up my alley. How would you mix up my banana bread recipe? Let me know in the comments below 👇🏻
there’s still time to make latkes for Hanukkah this year ☺️ and with my easy latke recipe & tips, you’ll have delicious latkes in no time! crispy, tasty potato pancakes - what more could you ask for? now only the age old question remains: sour cream or apple sauce on top? as you can see, it’s @toffutibrands sour cream for me (but I also will throw in an apple sauce latke to mix it up 😉). let me know in the comments below which team you’re on 👇🏻 link to recipe: https://the-jewish-vegan.com/hanukkah-recipes-easy-vegan-latkes/
Halfway through Hanukkah & halfway through the week! Is anyone else really ready for a #MacNCheeseWednesday? 🙋🏻♀️ I went with my classic Mac n Cheese recipe (the recipe is on my website and currently linked in my stories!) & I paired it with @morningstarfarms incogmeato chik’n nuggets 🤤 oh, and I used @violife_foods cheddar shreds in the Mac n Cheese! You can totally use your favorite cheese shreds (I’ve even used pepper jack shreds in my picked Mac n Cheese - that recipe is also on my blog). What’s your favorite cheese flavor for Mac n Cheese? Let me know in the comments below 👇🏻
my posts are mainly food focused, BUT the reason I went vegan was for the animals. Animals have always held a huge piece of my heart, and it has been such a joy getting to visit @poplarspringsanctuary and all of the rescued residents that live there over the years ♥️ this sanctuary does such amazing work not only for the animals that live there but to change the hearts and minds of the people who visit in how they view the creatures who share the world with us humans ☺️ if you live in the area (DMV) definitely consider giving them a visit and, no matter where you live, consider a donation for this #givingtuesday to support their residents and their work! #ad Hanukkah Sameach! Happy Hanukkah! Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, and what better way to celebrate than with sufganiyot (jelly filled donuts) and wine 🥳 @90pluscellars gifted me an absolutely fantastic Prosecco Rosé that paired so well with the jelly I used this year 🤤 the hints of ginger, lilac, and citrus were just so well highlighted by the raspberry and mandarin jellies in the donuts! And because this wine is bubbly, getting to pop the cork only adds to the festivities 🎆 what jelly or jam would you pair with this Prosecco Rosé? let me know in the comments below 👇🏻 P.S. you can find the link to my sufganiyot recipe in my stories right now! It’s on my website at https://the-jewish-vegan.com/easy-vegan-sufganiyot-hanukkah-jelly-filled-donuts/
did you know that the first challah picture I ever posted on Instagram (this one right here) was one I baked at an advocacy event I hosted for @challahforhunger? The first time I EVER ate challah was when I attended a challah bake at my undergrad’s chapter of challah for hunger and that’s where I learned to be a baker & I learned to be an advocate for the cause of campus hunger. Did you know that 41% of 4-year university students and half of community college students are food insecure (and that these numbers are taken pre-pandemic 😱)? In addition to supporting Challah for Hunger through being an alumni advisor, I donated to the organization today for their end of the year campaign! Whether you share the infographic (the last pic of my post) in your story, donate, or talk about campus hunger with your friends and family this holiday break, I hope you’ll consider taking action on this important issue ♥️ if you would like to donate, the link is in my bio!

Shabbat Shalom! I haven’t made challah in a while now so I was glad to get some time today to spend baking in the kitchen ☺️ this week I made a whole wheat challah (but I used half whole wheat flour and half all purpose flour) - the link is in my story now! I’m wishing everyone a peaceful and restful shabbat 🕯
I’m a big fan of being creative in the kitchen - and I definitely got to do that with this pie! This is a grapefruit pie with a aquafaba meringue topping that I did get to torch 🔥 I’ll probably be going with a basic pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving though ☺️ what about you - are you team unconventional pie or team stick with tradition?
