Five Reasons to Fall in Love with Hot Springs, SD Who knew that nestled in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota rested this quiet & charming town of Hot Springs? Our family was invited here by South Dakota Tourism to experience and enjoy the annual Fall River Hot Air Balloon Festival, and we certainly did that, but we got much more than we bargained for during our stay in this adorable little town! Other family friendly activities in Hot Springs include Cascade Falls – a spring fed, clear water swimming hole just south of Hot Springs; Angostura Recreation Area – All opinions shared in this article are our own, and a huge thank you is owed to Travel South Dakota and Hot Springs, South Dakota, as this experience was made possible by our partnership with them.

We had some pretty light plans for the day, just hit the Sacred Monkey Forest, stop and grab some lunch, then head back to Pandawas and swim in the pool that afternoon. So not only did that ruin the rest of our day’s plans, but it also left Addyson high and dry for pool time, she wasn’t allowed in the water for at least a week. When we finished up at the waterfall, we came to the sudden realization that we would not, out of respect, be allowed to enter the temples that we planned on visiting that day because of the open wound on Addyson’s head. Surely we were going to have a great time there, soaking in the sights and taking pictures (because we were able to stop back by the villa and pick up Erik’s memory card on the way).
We had no idea how private, peaceful, and serene our stay would be when we booked a week here, and unfortunately, our time in Ubud was nothing but peaceful, but the Pandawas Villas provided a tranquility that helped melt our troubles away during our week there. The over-sized king bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was a luxurious outdoor space with an over-sized tub and rain shower, two sinks, all of the essential amenities, and bottled water replenished daily (because the water here is not filtered or clean). Erik had a desk for his computer and gadgets, and the room came with a small refrigerator that we were able to stock for extremely inexpensive at the Delta Dewata Supermarket just a few minutes from the villa. They took us to lunch and dinner basically every day, and even up to the rice terrace on our last day (although don’t expect them to take you anywhere besides into town unless you’re the only ones there, they don’t usually do that).
