🇲🇽New year new you, new RV, new country🇲🇽 We made it to Mexico but not without watermelon extra strength @5HourEnergy 🍉 to help us get here! 💾 Here are some RVing across the border tips and a little insight in our experience so far. 1. Have all of your documents ready and organized before hand. Make 4 copies of each. Passports, drivers license, vehicle titles and registration, Mexican insurance (we got liability online via adventure Mexican insurance services $130 for each vehicle for 6 months) & UTD dog vaccine records. 2. Have cash in various small denominations for bartering. 3. You can bring up to $10,000 undeclared cash (we brought our full $6k payment in cash for the RV painter) hidden in a safe spot 🤫 4. Leave your guns behind with friends or family if possible. 5. Make sure to follow traffic laws TO👏A 👏T. Otherwise it's a great excuse to pull you over and scare you into paying them $$$. For not stopping at a stop sign it is $40 but they will likely try to tell you otherwise. Tell them you know the law, hand them $40 and be on your way. (we made this mistake and they told us it was $100 fine 😒) 6. Some border crossings are much busier than others. We passed through Lukeville in 15 minutes. Asked us a few questions: how long we were staying, where we were going and if we had alcohol or guns. He told us he needed to walk around the RV. He came in and opened a few cabinets and drawers and said we were good to go. Didn't even ask for any paperwork but I'm sure crossing back into the US will be a different story. Overall it's been great so far, and we are enjoying the beach, perfect weather, & fresh coconuts. If you have any questions about RVing to Mexico feel free to ask below! While we have always chased the mild weather in our RV, here are some ❄️𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗩 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀❄️: -Thick rugs (ladies great excuse to buy more rugs👌) -Heavy insulated curtains &/or clear window insulation stickers -Skirt under your RV including the slides -Electric heaters + heating pads/blankets -Run your gas furnace to keep your underbelly, tanks, and water lines from freezing. -Keep an eye on your propane so you don't wake up/come back to a cold RV. -Fill your fresh water tank and disconnect your water hose if expecting overnight freezing temps & run off your fresh tank Have any other tips I missed? There was no way I was hiking up 755 feet (70 stories) & 2.5 miles to high dune and not taking an epic shot 💃⁣ ⁣ Swipe to see the video of us getting up to the top, this was a strenuous hike🥵 But we both absolutely 10 outta 10 recommend it if you visit Great Sand Dunes NP! Just bring plenty water and be prepared for gusts of wind & sand at the top. ⁣ ⁣ Also because the sand at this park is highly metallic (black magnetite), this sand gets HOT. It can reach up to 150* in the summer so it's best to make this hike at sunrise or sunset so you don't burn your feet off, literally. ⁣ ⁣There are approximately 4.8 billion cubic meters of sand at this park, home of the highest sand dune in North America. Have you been to any sand dunes? I'd love to add them to our travel list 🙏 Gimme all the cool geology & sand that goes on forever! ⁣ ⁣ 💾 Tips:⁣ ⁣A great RV park nearby is @sanddunesrecreaction it's a hot springs, restaurant, & RV park all in one. ⁣ ⁣ For great sunset photos, park on the side of the road about a 1-1/2 mile before the park entrance. 🧡 𝙷𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔 𝚒𝚝🧡 In the 3 weeks David was home we stayed at 6 different places, & drove 550+ miles through 4 states. *Swipe 1 for drone video* ⁣ ⁣ We often get asked how much we move around in our RV. It really depends, sometimes 6 times in 3 weeks, sometimes we don't move at all for months at a time.⁣ ⁣ When I plan our schedule 6 months in advance, I try to keep a good balance of traveling + stationary time. That way we can really enjoy and explore an area thoroughly, & not feel like we have to cram everything in just a small window of space. Also constantly moving around can be stressful and exhausting. ⁣ ⁣ By balancing our travels & stationary time we save on gas, as well as money on RV sites by getting monthly rates instead of daily/weekly. ⁣ ⁣ How do you prefer to travel? Here we are 8 years married, living in our cozy little RV together exploring the country. Never could I have imagined this adventurous, traveling life I'd have with you 11 years ago.
