Yet there are such gems hidden deep in these mighty mountains Har ki Dun, which means valley of Gods, is a cradle shaped valley situated deep inside Govind Pashu National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Motorable road goes from Dehradun to a village named Sankri (7 hours’ drive) and SUVs can travel further 1 hour on a bumpy road till Taluka. This Garhwali hamlet is perched high above the Supin river gushing through rapids To reach this village directly from the nearest motorable road link, one has to trek for about 15 km. Some local forest produce includes the kandali leaves (also known as ‘Bicchu ghaas’), some fern buds and edible mushrooms which form a part of the traditional delicacies Farms here are mostly tended to by women.
Half of the joy of traveling to a new country is getting lost and confused, scrambling to find your way through the labyrinth of buses, trains and planes. This, however, can very easily turn into a wormhole that steals quality adventuring time away from you if you don’t have a clear plan for your adventure in India. I enjoy the puzzle of trying to navigate my own way through a new country, no matter how hard it might seem. But that’s just what leads to confusion: so many people trying to do what they think is best for you… might just lead you in circles.
Many travelers are hesitant whether they should rent a Royal Enfield and go on a motorcycle adventure while they’re in India. There’s no other freedom like this Nothing I can tell you here will be able to relate that feeling of pure joy and freedom that you’ll have the first day as you roar off into the horizon and begin your motorcycle adventure in India. The sound of the world around you as you fly through it, the feeling of the wind knocking you around, the continuous 180 degree panorama… it’s all part of that fully immersive experience that travel by motorcycle will give you. Going on a motorcycle adventure of your own gets you out of the tourist bubble and gives you a true experience of incredible India.
If you want to navigate the chaos of Delhi, you’ve got to keep a few things in mind. Even if you’ve been in extremely hot countries before and can cope with 40+ degree weather, you’ll still find this overwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, I walk almost everywhere when I’m in a new city just to be a part of the street culture and take photos, but here, it’s really a challenge. India has a strange spirit that likes to test the patience of those who think that they are experienced travelers.
