I started looking for ways to work at home and that’s when I came up with my business idea for Why With only four credits shy of my Associate’s degree I left school to be home with my kids while my husband went out on the road as a truck driver full time. As much as I wanted to make enough money with my business so he could work locally, or better yet work with me, I knew that was going to be a long road ahead to get to that point. After the sudden passing of #KobeBryant many of us have been reflecting on our own mortality and fragility of life. Today is also the 34th anniversary of the space challenger tragedy. (I wrote about that on my Facebook page earlier today if you want to read my account.) I recently was looking for an old photo for my sister, when I stumbled upon this letter that I wrote to my paternal Grandma when I was about 11 years old. I must’ve hid it somewhere in her home where I knew she wouldn’t find it right away. Not sure if she ever told me she found it. All I know is that many years later, after she passed, it was found with her precious keepsakes. She passed away when I was in my mid 20’s. Although she had been sick and up in her years, her death still came as a surprise to us as it happened on Christmas Eve. I was very close to her and cried for months after she passed. I was so mad at myself for not calling or writing her more. Somehow finding this letter was cathartic. I know she knew I loved her but knowing she held onto this all those years made me feel better somehow. I had forgotten all about it until I found it this week. Lesson today is: Don’t wait to tell someone you love them. Call, text, visit, write and do it often. Make those connections count. Make the moments matter. Chances are if you’re reading this you know at least one person with diabetes who needs insulin to survive. Now imagine that person having to decide between buying insulin or paying their rent. Buying insulin or groceries. Buying insulin or gas for their car to get to work. This should NOT be an issue but for millions of Americans with diabetes it most certainly is. The cost of insulin has nearly TRIPLED since 2002! Now imagine being under insured or not having insurance that covers that cost and having to come up with the money to buy it on a low or fixed income. Many senior citizens especially are faced with these choices. I don’t think my own Grandmothers who were both diabetic could afford it today if they were alive. This needs to CHANGE! Today's #TBT is a photo session of my boys when Thomas was graduating pre-school which was also a daycare my boys attended. They had a photographer come in and take these photos complete with the outfits and props. When I saw them I loved them ALL! I've never had such adorable photos taken of them that captured their personalities so well. I wish I knew her secret since I can't seem to get them to take a decent photo for me. 😂 These turned out SO cute and I cherish them so. In the photo of Thomas holding the chalkboard, I recall the photographer saying that in all her years of taking preschool photos he was the first to insist on writing his first and last name. That's my boy! Not surprisingly Zach had to hold the truck she had as a prop.
