Spanish speaking registered dietitian on a mission to teach my followers how to have a healthy realtionship with food and thier body! I want to share brands that are feel good and make my fellow latina's excited about eating!
I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have heard you chulas tell me you heard things like this growing up. And these comments began the years and years of yo-yo dieting that lead to frustration and shame. A chula that I just started working with shared that growing up her pediatrician shamed her. And this caused her mom to go into full blown control. She wasn't able to eat anything her mom considered unhealthy and all meals had to be supervised. After years of suffering she finally realized she could not longer live being afraid of everything she eats. During our first call we discussed food as energy and she realized that her fear of calories had been keeping her from getting enough energy which left her being exhausted. So we reframed those thoughts and now she is working on not fearing foods and feels so much better. Unlearning what you have been conditioned to believe by diet culture is HARD. That's why I created my course to help Chulas like you learn to nourish and respect their bodies. 🎉Enroll today in the Diet Culture Disruptor Course and go from being afraid of your cultural foods to food freedom! ✨Enrollment closes Feb 8th ✨ 🎉Click on the link in my bio. Hand up 🙋🏽♀️ if you want to learn how ADD nutrition NOT restrict 🤗 Ohhh the damn wellness and nutrition world is full of pseudoscience and fat phobia. Not to mention it demonizes cultural foods and leave us feeling in limbo. Like wtf do I eat? Eff it if I am going to be bad I might as well be BAD. But chula, that is not the answer. As I said in the @chr1styharrison podcast "Something is just not right with thinking food is always the issue" Because its not. You are not wrong for eating the foods your family provided you. NO MATTER WHAT IT WAS! I often here chulas tell me, but growing up I didn't eat healthy, and my question always is "but what is healthy" I am often met with," well we ate a lot of rice, a lot of meat, and not enough veggies" Well lets break that down. Our veggies do not look like American veggies, someone on tik tok jokingly said to me " latinos dont have salads we have salsas" and I laughed so hard. We might not be adding broccoli and kale to all our foods but those root veggies and those tropical fruits provide ALL the fiber and vitamins and minerals that our bodies need, not to mention those salsas and sofritos are LOADED with veggies. So just because your plate doesn't look like MyPlate, it doesn't mean its not healthy. And remember you can always ADD more veggies, whats wrong with that? I need you all to take a step back and be curious, understand how these dishes nourish us, and let go of the all or nothing thoughts. Want to learn how? The chulas who work with me have learned to let go of food rules and keep their culture alive while nourishing their bodies. 🎉Enroll today in the Diet Culture Disruptor Course and go from being afraid of your cultural foods to food freedom in just 3 months! Raise your hand 🙋🏽♀️ if you have personally been victim of diet culture. Every chula I speak to. I MEAN EVERY Chula I speak to, describes the mind Olympics they play in their heads trying to just figure out how to eat. 🍛They spent entirely way to many hours of the day stressing about why they are hungry, why they don’t want to eat this; forcing themselves to eat or drink things that do not satisfy them and ALL OF THEM can recall the face of disappointment they have witness from an abuela, mami, tia who’s food they turned down while on the latest fad diet. 📣This does not have to be your life. Which is why I created my course. To help YOU learn how to eat without bingeing or restricting. So that YOU can learn to add nutrition instead of take away. And so that YOU can learn how to honor your body and it’s needs. This Chula also had this to say: 💁🏽♀️” I’ve already learned so much and am applying the concepts I’ve learned. I am well on my way to true food freedom! Thank you Dalina!” 📣Stop the constant stressing over food and learn to respect your body and keep your culture alive. 🎉Check out the link in my bio & get started on the course today. ✨Limited time offer. Last day to purchase is Feb 8th. ✨Don’t miss your opportunity to become a diet culture disruptor.💃🏽
Did you here this or any other comments growing up?! Tell me below 👇🏽 This idea that if our bodies change we somehow “let ourselves go” has to STOP. Has to stop 🛑 now. Bodies are meant to change. It’s part of the aging process. But the beauty and wellness worlds sell is the lie that we need to use certain products, eat certain ways, and work out til our limbs are falling off in order to maintain. But is that worth it? Is it really healthy if your mental health is suffering? Why has society pressured us into believing that our worth is a look? Why do we let ourselves feel crushed over letters and number on our clothing? Why do we let photoshopped influencers make us feel inadequate? Because we have been sold the lie that we can somehow control how our bodies shift. And we want to feel in control. Who doesn’t? Many of the Chulas I work with often feel like letting go of the control of how they eat is letting themselves go. That if their bodies shift then somehow, somehow they did something wrong. But what they realize as they move through this process is that, their mental health improves SO much once they are able to let go of the unachievable expectations. That they have so much room to GROW 🌱 when they stop worrying about every crumb of food they eat and they truly feel like they can live. And they are able to start appreciating their bodies. Does this mean that they will never have bad body image days, NO. But they are able to reflect and reframe and feel better quicker. 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. That allow you to overcome binges and restriction and learn to leave food rules behind. All while keeping cultural foods alive & creating healthy behaviors for yourself. 👯♀️Join a community of other Chula’s also learning to be a diet culture disruptor. Tio bernie is OVER IT, lol 😂 I mean I HAD to jump on this meme. And I cannot stop laughing. In all seriousness we have to stop the diet talks and learn to have a better realtionship with food. We want to learn to honor our cultures and our nutritional needs! And we want to change the dialogue for the younger generations. ✨Want to learn how? Do you feel like you are damned if you do & damned if you don't? Like you second guess every damn things you eat because you wonder, is this healthy enough? Am i eating enough greens? Does this have too many carbs? Enough protein? Although we want to be mindful of nutrition, feeling like this every time you eat IS NOT NORMAL. Today I had a call with a chula who is struggling hard with this. She felt like every time she ate she was stressing herself out. constantly worrying about every ingredient. & we started breaking down these fears. First of all diet culture tells us we cannot be trusted to make our own decisions, because if we are, we will always choose "bad foods" which is NOT TRUE. You are a damn adult. You are in control and you know whats best for YOU. Yes at the beginning when you allow yourself to eat, your body doesn't know if it can still truly trust you so you will crave all the foods you didn't allow yourself to eat. But after you create that trust again, it all evens out. This chula and I are working on creating trust. Because she is on control not diet culture. Do do you want to feel like you can just eat and not be afraid? Do you want to be in control of your choices? 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. That allow you to overcome binges and restriction and learn to leave food rules behind. Today we get a new president. 🇺🇸 Today we get to turn a new leaf 🍃 Today I read a statement: US is battling 3 viruses: COVID. WHITE SUPREMACY. & MISINFORMATION. & today I hope you take the time to breathe. Hydrate. And let yourself hope a little. Hope that our country will begin to heal & move towards the right direction. & I will also remind you that part of healing is eating. If you’ve been here a while you constantly hear me say: eating is the ultimate act of self care. 🌮Eating nourishes you. 🫔Eating brings you pleasure 🥙 Eating helps your body know it’s SAFE. So today and everyday. Choose to nourish. Even on the stressful days. Choose you. & choose comfort. Choose self care. ✨& if you’re new around here. Head on over to my bio. The audacity of stores making you feel inadequate because THEY don't carry sizes for all. Or the fact that sizes carried in store make you also feel inadequate because they aren't tailored to YOU but they use a stencil to cut out various sizes AND they vary per store. So you can literally shop at 3 different stores and be 3 different sizes. So why do we let a number on our pants or letter on our shirts get to us? Because of comments like that 👆🏽 Because society has told us that our worth is based on numbers. That YOU need to change yourself because YOU need to fit into this mold or chart that was NOT created with you in mind. & before you hit me with the BUT HEALTH dialogue, health is NOT a size. and no one owes YOU health. If someone is healthy by their means and feels great, comfortable, can move at the best of their capabilities, eats without being stressed, has access to a variety of foods, and is HAPPY, why tf do you care? Why does society care about their size? FATPHOBIA that's why. Because its not truly about health its about pathologizing bodies to create a narrative. So, beauty is not a size or a pre requisite to being treated with respect and dignity. And neither is your gravitational pull on this earth. Everyone deserves respect and access to adequate health care and fresh foods. PERIODT. Now, if you're ready to learn a new way and see yourself as more than a shirt size. And you're ready to disrupt diet culture, come work with me! 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. That allow you to overcome binges and restriction and learn to leave food rules behind. HEALTH. It's so much more than what you eat and how you move. Today is MLK day and like every year you will see A LOT of quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. mostly the ones that have been circulating since his death that have been tolerable for the media to share and hear. But MLK was fighting for justice, justice that til this day. To this very moment, as you saw last week has not been achieved. Because this country is still divided. It's still a country of the individual who believes that everyone is equal and that everyone can pull themselves up by some imaginary bootstraps. "I believe we ought to do all we can and seek to lift ourselves by our own boot straps, but it’s a cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps." This country is still full of bootless 🥾people. 📢People who are denied access to healthcare. 📢People who are denied access to fresh foods. 📢People who are denied a living wage. 📢People who are denied access to live able housing. 📢People who cannot just simply pull themselves up by a boot strap, because they have no damn boot straps to hold on to. So if you believe health is just eating and movement. Take a step back and look at all the inequities of this country. Because access to healthcare and food and to be treated with dignity and respect should be something ALL have not just some.
Had this planned today and @vitamin_ri basically posted the same thing and honestly her caption is better than anything I could write right now. So go read it. @laurenleavellfitness is also speaking all or nothing thoughts which you need to go also read. & the Chulas I work with are currently in our private fb group talking about letting go of their worth based on their bodies changing. Because our bodies change daily. Whether it’s bloat (which is normal) hormonal shifts. You just ate. You name it. Our bodies aren’t meant to be stationary. They are meant to live and move like waves. But your worth. That never changes. 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. Hi. Yes you! It’s that time of the year where influencers are posting EXTRAAAA pics of their bodies selling you shakes and diets. But even if you drank their shakes & did their work outs. You will not look like them. Your worth isn’t a look. Your health isn’t a look. Your health IS physical & mental. And it’s very individual to you. So stop comparing yourself to someone who probs has airbrushed their picture. And begin some healthy intentions that have nothing to do with looking like someone else. One of the Chulas I work with describes how she had to stop following such influencers because they made her feel inadequate. It was like they were mocking her for not looking like they did. I get it. Everyone is entitled to show their body and have autonomy. But if that shit is fucking up your mental health, guess what you can unfollow. You’re allowed to work on yourself without it being a look. And this Chula has slowly began to see this. She’s lifting. She’s moving more. She’s properly nourishing. Her binges are done. And she feels GOOD. And she doesn’t attach her health to a specific look! She’s been able to separate herself from that using my framework. 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. Have you heard these words now or when you were younger? Tell me below 👇🏽 how they made you feel. I want to assure you. That it is NORMAL for your children to gain weight during the teenage years. And it was normal for YOU to gain weight during the teenage years. It is also normal for hunger to increase in order to accomplish GROWTH. & if you’re more active. You will need even more energy. Check out my post about calories yesterday if you want to learn more about energy. There is nothing wrong with weight gain then. There is nothing wrong with weight gain NOW. Bodies are not meant to be static. They are meant to grow and evolve with age. You are NOT meant to be the same weight as you were when you were 15 at 30. 📢📢📢 BODIES CHANGE. YOUR WORTH DOES NOT. If you’ve seen my stories today. You’ve seen one of my past clients sharing her Chula win. She has been lifting and exercising because she loves is. And yes feeling the burn and feeling strong is FUN for many. The feeling of being a badass is fun. So when we say fun movement we literally mean any movement that makes YOU happy. In other years she would’ve been dieting to control the outcome of her workouts. And under nourishing. And frustrated with “results” now instead of a look. She measures strength and ability. She’s a freaking bad ass marathon runner 🏃🏽♀️ and can now add lifter 🏋️♀️ to her achievements. & she feels AMAZING. Reframing your thoughts around food and exercise are key for you AND the younger generation we are raising! 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. You are not a ROBOT 🤖. Say this daily. Because, indeed you are not. You are a human. With emotions. With needs. And food, although it does provide us energy (calories are a measurement of energy yall) it also provide so much more. So, if we move differently daily & have different emotions that affect hormones and needs, how does eating the EXACT same energy daily help? It doesn’t. Being intuitive means that you will learn to honor your needs and hunger so that means that some days, you’ll eat more. Some days you’ll eat less. But it’s always going to be varying. Never set in stone. And always evolving. Many of the Chulas I work with have lived a life of rigid food rules. And the idea of just eating brings chills down their spine. Yesterday a Chula who finished her 1:1 program with me yesterday dm’d me this: “I was dancing in my kitchen this evening, making a smoothie and jamming to some songs that got stuck in my head after a peloton ride and I was like wow this is what I was looking for! Joyful movement, gentle nutrition, it just all came together in that moment. I just felt GOOD. And you gave me that!! You taught me how to make all of that part of my life.” Before she started working with me, she was a former high school track star who was constantly told to under nourish and push beyond her bodies basic needs. Her body deteriorated fast and in her 20s when she went off to college her struggles around food continued. Constantly on and off of diets. Yo-yoing and watching her health deteriorate. Now in her 30s. She’s learned to nourish and respect her body. And as you can see IT FEELS GREAT. the rigid rules are gone. And she’s honoring her needs. 🎉When you work with me we work on building strategies that help you nourish & respect your body. That allow you to overcome binges and restriction and learn to leave food rules behind.
