How Do TED Talkers Do it? A reaction to a talk by Devin Marks

MyTEDtalk.com is a website where those who want to start the journey to the TED talk stage or simply want to master the TED Talk-esque style of presenting can get assistance. Through his journey to his niche profession, Marks learned a lot of lessons that were helpful for me to hear as graduation looms on my horizon, and he provided great insight regarding a framework that can improve overall public speaking. He mentioned instances that this phrase helped him professionally-- like when he found himself lobbying in Washington D. C. and at a crossroad, and instances that this phrase helped him personally—like when making a decision to travel all around the country with someone in the passenger seat-- who would later become his wife. Although it was relevant to the content of the lecture, I would have enjoyed a lot more content about TED Talks, i.e. the biggest struggles and successes presenters have, what it is like to actually be up on the stage, his favorite TED Talks etc.

Is Going Cashless the Right Move for Your Restaurant?

Not taking cash frees up a lot of time that was initially wasted at the register by customers searching for cash, employees completing the transaction and returning change, etc. Swiping a card, or in cases like McDonald’s, no interactions at all between a cashier and customer period, allow employees to focus more on cooking and completing orders efficiently. First, despite the fact that millennials dominate a restaurant’s clientele, there are still generations who prefer to pay by cash and may feel alienated by the change. With the ease that cashless restaurants offer, they pose as a threat to restaurants that refuse to give up the soon-to-be-antiquated cash payment.

    Wendy's Savage Social Media Strategy

It all began back in January 2017: Wendy’s started displaying its new attitude on Twitter when responding to a user who did not believe that Wendy’s only uses “never frozen beef”(Wendy’s popular slogan is “fresh never frozen beef”). Higher-level employees at Wendy’s sometimes stop tweets that are on their way out the door that the they feel to be crossing a fine line, and other times they will inform the social media team when there was a tweet of which they were not particularly fond. For example, in terms of the Wilkerson tweet, Brandon Rhoten, former Head of Media, Advertising and Digital/Social for Wendy's, stated “When one of my team saw Carter’s tweet, asking for a lifetime supply of nuggets In the book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook, How to tell your story in a noisy social world, author Gary Vaynerchuk discusses that a successful social media tactic is using several “jabs”-- non-promotional content that asks nothing of the consumer before presenting the “right hook”-- the call to action so to speak.

Women's Empowerment a Clear Overarching Theme in #PRogressSU Event at Newhouse School

Tonight, on February 26, 2018, a panel of four women sat before a room overflowing with public relations students in the Costas Corner room in the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Dara Royer, Chief of Communications for Syracuse University, Eboni Britt, PR and Communications Manager at Eastman Kodak Company, Anneliese Cassalia, Public Relations Coordinator at Eric Mower + Associates, and Master Sergeant Angel Ford from the New York Air National Guard spoke before the crowd. However, when Britt mentioned that employment needs to be a mutually beneficial experience, I realized that employers need quality employees just as much as employees need a quality work environment. Royer also mentioned that she finds that she learns the most about an office’s culture and level of inclusivity through the small interactions-- how employees converse on their lunch break, when they go out to coffee or when in the break room.

Battle Royale: Instagram Pulls Ahead in the Snapchat Story vs. Instagram Story Contention

Forbes reported in 2017 that 200 million people use Instagram Stories daily, while 160 million people use Snapchat Stories every day. This user-friendly approach to Stories is much more inviting and convenient to users, especially those new to the concept. Influencers take advantage of this feature especially to tag their blog, use their token hash tag and tag other important influencers or people. It would be difficult and time-consuming to try to build the same kind of audience on a completely different social media application when Instagram Stories offer nearly all the same features as Snapchat.

7 Ways to Establish a Strong Online Presence for Your Restaurant

Social media pages are a great way to drive people to the restaurant’s website where they can check out the menu and find information like phone numbers and addresses. Younger generations find it odd when restaurants do not have social pages or a website, so these pages are a necessity for present and future success. According to Charles Marsh, author of book Strategic Writing, Multimedia Writing for Public Relations, Advertising and More, the most popular social media platform in the United States is Facebook followed by Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Twitter. Posting the link to this portal or the portal itself on the restaurant’s social pages and website will drive traffic to those pages and the restaurant itself.

Food Instagrammers: An unconventional but integral piece to your resta

Unfortunately, some of the younger food bloggers are the most influential, like Natalie Landsberg, 19, Gillian Presto, 19 and Emily Morse, 20, of the Instagram @new_fork_city, which boasts 602,000 followers. These power-drunk bloggers can test restaurants’ limits by requiring things like complimentary meals, plus-ones (or anywhere to plus-eights), unlimited buffets of every dish on the menu and sometimes compiling a bill of upwards of $200 (which, of course, is comped). The restaurants accommodate bloggers for the future post-- a post that is not a guarantee, given that most bloggers will only post food that they have enjoyed. This picture exchange can cause a certain photo or dish to go “viral,” and cause a restaurant’s Instagram to gain thousands of new followers.
