Highlights
  • Celebrate Frederick Douglass & the Underground Railroad in Rochester

But few names have lasted in our history books as predominantly as Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony. Harriet Tubman & the Sewards: A Friendship Made Along the Underground Railroad in Auburn 4: Uncover History at these Underground Railroad Sites in Syracuse 5: Retracing the Footsteps of Frederick Douglass and the Underground Railroad in Rochester If you’d like to learn even more about Frederick Douglass, I highly encourage you to check out Frederick Douglass’s Rochester, a year-long project by Open Mic Rochester and CITY newspaper. They honor the likes of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony all throughout town.

18 Scary Travel Stories From Haunted Hotels To Creepy Cabins

From haunted hotels to unexplainable sounds to creepy sightings, the following true travel stories all have one thing in common: They’ll make your hair stand on end — and will have you packing a nightlight next time you’re off on a trip. When it comes to creepy road trip stories and travel horror stories, this is by far my most terrifying. The next morning, as we were buying bread in town for breakfast, we told the story to the baker and he told us there have been many creepy stories of spirits making themselves feel known in the forest. They told me that it was probably a mountain lion but that didn’t explain the chain, or the fact that it sounded exactly like a human walking and running.

Tips for Visiting Red Top Mountain State Park

Just a short drive from Atlanta, Red Top Mountain State Park has an idyllic setting on the shores of Lake Allatoona. Red Top Mountain State Park is named for this area’s rich red soil caused by high iron-ore content. Located between Acworth and Cartersville, Red Top Mountain State Park is less than 40 miles from Atlanta and only about a 40 minute drive. The 3.5 mile Sweetgum Lodge Loop Trail connects the Visitor Center parking area and the Park Office area and shares trail space with the Homestead Trail.

Easy Fire Roasted Poblano Crema for Carnitas

Fire-roasted poblanos are the key to this fresh and vibrant crema that is perfect spooned over carnitas or an abundance of other things! Like tonight, when I grabbed Curly’s BBQ Sauceless Pulled Pork that I picked up in the refrigerated meat area of the market (you know, next to the fresh cuts where they also have mac and cheese and other quick solutions ready to grab) out and whipped up some tacos for a friend that dropped by. One of the easiest recipes to make, you only need fresh poblanos, cilantro, garlic (optional), lime juice, crema, and salt. If you’ve tried my Fire Roasted Poblano Crema Recipe or any other recipe on GirlCarnivore.com please don’t forget to rate the recipe and let me know where you found it in the comments below.

  • Three Lives Bar in Syracuse: The Coolest Place to Drink & Play Games

Jon Page came up with the idea based on his love of craft drinks and video games. Because there is such a strong focus on the drinks and games, the food menu is pretty simple. Now it’s time to talk about the heart of it all – the games! With the great food, drinks, staff, and overall experience, it’s a must for any local’s date night, happy hour, or late night with friends.

  • 5 Great Tips on How to Pack Up and Move House Successfully

Look in your local paper or online for Edmonton movers who will pack your belongings for you and transport them to your new home. Look online for strong packing boxes to purchase, ask local stores if they have any going free, or ask friends and family to save any boxes they may have for you. Gather bubble wrap and packaging paper from any deliveries you get or purchase a large roll of wrap from an online packaging company. Wrap breakables with plenty of bubble wrap or newspaper, and place any cushions, pillows, or towels in the boxes to provide extra padding.

The Stand (1994) vs The Stand (2020) • All Things Fadra

After hours and hours and hours of The Stand, I thought it might be time to weigh on on “who wore it best” by looking at the casting, the story, and the production of both old and new versions. While I think the story worked against the 2020 version of Randall Flagg, Skarsgaard brings a slight edge to the role. Although Nick was characterized very differently in the 2020 version (see my thoughts on story below), Henry Zaga (2020) matched the essence of who Nick was supposed to be. But they missed the encounters between Larry and Nadine, where she’s conflicted about her role with the Dark Man.

  • Why It Makes Perfect Sense to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Travel

You may have heard about capsule wardrobes, which are essentially a limited set of clothes that let you build a huge variation of outfits, all from mixing and matching. While there are obvious benefits to using a capsule wardrobe at home (especially if you’re into minimalism), these wardrobes are absolutely marvelous for traveling. One good tip when building your own capsule wardrobe is to stick to thin-material clothing items such as footless tights and breathable tees. Not only will you have to carry fewer clothes to pack into a suitcase, but you’ll also enjoy your travel itinerary with more confidence and fewer worries while you’re on the go.

  • How To Get Serious About Eating Healthy

Then you tried giving up meat, but it only lasted a few days after eating lunch at a taco truck one day. Developing healthy eating habits isn’t easy, especially when you’re used to eating whatever you’d like. You’ll also find that they will support your efforts by eating better when they’re around you, taking you to healthy restaurants, or keeping temptations out of your reach. Your body goes through withdrawal, and you start craving things you shouldn’t have when you’re too restrictive.

  • 12 Unique Things To Do In Paris

In Paris Spread over 75 acres, Jardin des Plantes is actually the main botanical garden in Paris, located in the famous Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement) near the Seine. Some of the top attractions worth visiting in Jardin des Plantes are the Menagerie, Natural History Museum, Alpine Garden, Labyrinthe, Rose Garden, and six greenhouses, just to name a few. This beautiful park is great for getting a glimpse of local life, far from the city’s tourist attractions. While most tourists in Paris flock to the Eiffel Tower to get a bird’s-eye view of the Paris skyline, many of them aren’t aware that there’s another tower in the city that actually offers an even better view
