    Milenah

Born in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil in 2000, and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Milenah’s strong passion for music started at the early age of four years old. While posting videos on the Internet, Milenah participated in local and online talent shows and won each talent competition she entered. That studio experience sparked Milenah’s interest for producing and mixing, so she immediately started learning the process through online videos and self-experimentation. In September, 2018, Milenah took a big step, moved to the United States, and began studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she will earn a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music Writing and Production.

  • Grinding to walk in complete obedience!

Sometimes you don’t like what you are being told or you don’t fully agree or maybe the instructions make you uncomfortable in some way. In our walk with Christ we get instructions and as Christians it is our reasonable service to obey God! This is for my believers, although there is much practicality to following rules we know that the first thing we do when God is speaking to us is to stop and listen and then obey! Don’t forget to go on over to my YouTube channel and subscribe I’ll be posting my life style videos starting in March.

  • It’s the last Sunday of the month!

So many things going through our heads about what we would like for the year to look like. I spent this entire month writing down everything I wanted to happen in this new year. Doesn’t mean they won’t happen they just didn’t happen as quickly as I would have liked them to. I said all that to say, even though we are at the end of the first month of the year we are only at the beginning of the most amazing year of our lives!

  • “Grace, Gratefulness and Gratitude”

it’s the spirit of gratefulness and gratitude that allows this grace to remain! It’s so easy to be distracted and forget that we should truly be grateful for the mere existence of life! It’s absolutely life changing.. There’s a place in Grace where humility and forgiveness are inevitably present to continue in grace.

  • 2019! The Sequel! Grinding a plan in the New Year!

If you are anything like me then I’m sure you have a ton of things that you’ve written down for the new year! Well how many of you plan on accomplishing these goals that you’ve set for the new year? Well, I made a decision that I wouldn’t over load myself with new year resolutions but that I would have goals that I know I need to get done for sure and make it my life’s work to grind them out! But this year I have been blessed with some amazing accountability partners who have committed to a vision board party for our New Year goals!

Gamify Classroom Management in Upper Grades General Music using ClassCraft

Let’s be real for a second – general music can be a tough buy in, especially at the middle school and high school level. rewards student behavior, XP allow students to level up and learn powers, which they can use for themselves or their teamExamples of how students can earn XP in my class:completes the bell ringer before class officially starts (incentive for them to come to class and be ready to start on time)Health points(HP) – discourages negative student behavior, HP is the life force of their character – if they lose too much HP, they will fall in battleExamples of how students can lose HP in my class:did not participate in group workGold pieces(GP) – extra reward for student behavior(part of the paid plan) or earned when leveling up(available in free plan), GP allows students to purchase gear for their characterExamples of how students can gain GP in my class:early to class (certain number of minutes before class

Music Too: Gender Bias and Discrimination in the Field of Music

Legg, in attempt to replicate gender bias research from the 1990s, found that despite music teachers awareness of gender bias and acknowledgement of how it is unfair, these music teachers continued to link perceptions of quality with gender (2010). The amount of gender bias in these professional magazines and journals can have a serious impact on people’s perceptions of women in the field of music and can continue to perpetuate the harm that comes from gender bias and stereotypes. One study from over 20 years ago totaled the number of collegiate female band directors to be around 6.5% of the total band director positions and claimed “as more women enter the field and as tenured professors retire, it is probable that the numbers of women and men in the field should become more equitable If students at such a young age have developed an anti-female bias towards female jazz composers, this may explain why women continue to experience gender bias and discrimination in jazz.

Cyber Monday Deals for Music Teachers 2018

Drawing on his own experience of feeling undervalued and invisible in classrooms as a young man of color and merging his experiences with more than a decade of teaching and researching in urban America, award-winning educator Christopher Emdin offers a new lens on an approach to teaching and learning in urban schools. For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood…and the Rest of Y’all Too is the much-needed antidote to traditional top-down pedagogy and promises to radically reframe the landscape of urban education for the better.

  • “Grinding Through No Motivation or Inspiration” A Conversation w/LB…

I wasn’t sure that my words ever inspired anyone to be better or to even feel encouraged. That it’s normal but that I don’t have to allow that feeling to define me or pull me down. Then he responded back to that and said: “Doesn’t mean it’s impossible! He taught me that inspiration is a daily process and every day isn’t going to be peaches and cream but you have to remember that there is someone out there who needs you, someone who could use your story to get through their process.

3 Easy Ways to Build Positive Relationships with Middle and High School General Music Students

In fact, positive student relationships are the cornerstone of my classroom management style (I really hate the word management but that’s what it’s most commonly known as). Often times students get to high school and assume teachers won’t say their name correctly. I have made a commitment to send at least one positive message to students each week and rather than do it through a simple email, I’ve been sending students cards. It’s really nice to see you looking after your students personally, as not many teachers do (especially as one gets into later grades).
