I spoke with the director Tim Story (Fantastic Four, SHAFT) and one of the starts Chlöe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, The Fifth Wave) about the new Warner Brothers Movie and how they really wanted to stay true to the original animation by using 2D effects, motion capture and a clever new piece of software that mimics hand-drawn movements. The stone grants three wishes at first, Minerva accidentally receives a version of Diana’s powers, Diana inadvertently brings back Steve Trevor’s soul, and Max finds a way to draw power directly from the stone itself, sending him on his quest to take over the world. Max and Minerva ultimately team up against Diana and Steve over their shared anxiety of losing popularity, power and peroxide. Unfortunately, we spent so much time on Steve and Diana’s “sort of” relationship, and the retelling of Diana’s origins and Lord’s emotional state, that there didn’t seem to be enough time to give Minerva the development the character deserved. Some missteps, like the all-white breakdance crew on a corner (we literally invented breakdancing in the ‘80s) or Max’s dreadlocked assistant (we weren’t allowed to wear locs in business settings back then), don’t affect the plot but pulled me out of the story momentarily.

Like I just didn't know, you know, black people were interested in science Karama: When I think corporate, I don't think science, so help me out and for lay people who are listening, what is a corporate science job? You know, like I, throughout my professional career, whether I was working in corporate or working as, you know, working as a professor at a community college, I always saw the need for me to kind of stop what I was doing and use my skills and talents in a way that would make big impacts for the future generations of scientists. Like, Yeah, but, Karama: um, I'm really, I'm really glad you said that because I think so many of us in many different disciplines, black women, and this is the other reason, I think black women have the highest rates of like stress related illnesses and, you know, and fibroids and cancer and things like that.

Here’s what the CW shared with me: Khalil Payne (Jordan Calloway) is a young man ridden with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City, where, as a super-enhanced killing machine known as Painkiller, he was both a member of Tobias Whale’s gang and a weapon of Agent Odell and the shadowy ASA. After attempting to bury the darker, devastatingly lethal Painkiller part of his persona, Khalil has distanced himself away from everyone he knows and loves in a new city, Akashic Valley, in order to find peace…but peace never comes easy for men with pasts like Khalil Payne and Painkiller. The character was created by Tony Isabella and Eddie Newell and first appearance in Black Lightning, Vol. 2 #2 in 1995. It’s interesting that this character is a getting a pilot in the middle of Black Lightning’s next season as opposed to a full show run.

In the Hood co-star Jay Washington and in the second hour Red vs Blue Season: Zero director Torrian Crawford and gamer, streamer, cosplayer and actress Fiona Nova who makes her debut this season as Agent One are stopping by! Since his time with the company, Torrian has taken on the role of Animation Director for the hit web-series ‘DEATH BATTLE!’ and has also animated and fight choreographed for the Streamy nominated animated series, “gen: LOCK” starring Michael B. Jordan. Prior to joining Rooster Teeth, Torrian was the lead animator for ScrewAttack Entertainment in charge of all 3D CGI animation. Fiona is a core cast member and appears in several Rooster Teeth weekly series including live stream gameplay series, podcasts and online shorts.

He plays Cleveland Booker, the rogue pilot that Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) meets when she crash lands in the future after the events of the season 2 finale. Despite the show wrapping back in February of this year, Ajala says this season’s Trek storyline has eerie parallels to both the pandemic and the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Ajala is thrilled to be joining the Star Trek franchise as well as portraying what he describes as an “anti-establishment” character on the show, plus Michael’s new love interest. He also confirmed that although the show is now set so far in the future, they have broken away from cannon, but he assured me that the team stayed true to the sentiment of Star Trek lore.
