    Know Your Place

One of them is learning to know your place, or, more specifically, go to a particular place on command. Rosie was being a typical puppy, so he got out our mat and a few treats and started fooling with teaching her the command. I think back to the days of training Blueberry and how she’d go to her crate and lay down with her back to Mr. Taleteller if he told her that she didn’t do something right. I thought it would be a lot harder to teach, but with a dog who is eager to learn, it turns out that it’s pretty easy.

    Tales and Tails

A few weeks ago, I saw that one of Rosie’s sisters went back to visit her breeder while her family had to be out of town. One of the things that Birdie spent a lot of time doing was playing in their pool while she was there and I’ve seen several of their other puppies and dogs playing too. A few weeks ago when it was really hot here, I’m pretty sure she thought she would melt every time she went out for a potty break. When she got tired, she rescued her ball and went to relax on the elevated dog bed that’s out there.

    The Balm Of Time

My heart sank as I read the diagnosis, even though I’ve never met the dog in person. If you had told me eight months ago that the balm of time would have worked on mending my own broken heart, I’m not sure I would have believed you. known, though, Rosie is the most unique little soul that we’ve ever come across. In her own way, Rosie was waiting for me to arrive and bring the balm of time with her to help me move forward in the way I needed to.

    Stepping Stones

Rose is the first dog that I’ve ever taken through puppy class, although I’ve done obedience with quite a few of our dogs, most recently Bunny. I completely expected Rosie and I to be a little behind the older dogs in our beginning obedience class, and I was okay with that. Kylo and Rosie are light years ahead of the other dogs in our class in a lot of ways that surprised me. Soon, we’ll be building on those foundations and learning some more advanced skills, but the last few weeks, Rose has had her turn to shine as a mostly well-mannered young lady.

    Thanks, Easter Bunny

We are still the epicenter for the population of the world’s stupidest rabbits here at our house. She also trained him to go outside and chase the rabbits away from the yard at one point, and I still giggle when I see him do this even though Morgan has now been gone for almost a year. Then there were the rabbits who thought it was a good idea to build a nest right inside our dog turnout pen. The rabbits could live in any of their yards without much threat to their existence and probably repopulate even faster than they could in our yard.

    Tandem Training

Since I have a bit of a soft spot, I can’t resist giving Flattery a treat when she comes in and sits, giving me her best puppy dog eyes. This week, we’ve been working in motivational sits and downs, as well as a little swing circle to get into place for walking. Doing certain things on command has never been Flattery’s strong suit, so I’ve been taking advantage of the opportunity to reinforce some of the things we’ve tried to teach her through the year. At some point, I’ll probably start training Rosie somewhere where Flattery can’t interfere, but for now we’re doing okay with an extra dog in the mix

Search And Rescue Saturday-To the Movies

Readers if you are interested in seeing and learning a little more about working dogs I would encourage you to see Superpower Dogs at an IMAX type theater in your area. The movie introduces viewers to six working dogs, all working different jobs and some of the science behind how the nose and dogs body works. Halo is working towards her urban search and rescue certification with one of the FEMA dog teams. It’s a great way to take a break and see a movie that is both fun and educational about what we love, the working dog.

    Halfway Around The Sun

After having some success with getting pictures of her over the weekend, I felt confident that I could try to get a few cute pictures of her, even though I was on my own. In an ideal world, I’d have Mr. Taleteller around to help me, but he was at work and I felt that I had a pretty safe plan in place, so I headed off with my puppy to spoil her a little and have some special fun. Thanks to the magic of a long line and some very tasty treats, we got some cute pictures that I was really happy with, especially considering her lack of experience and being in a new place. We found a ball toy that was bigger than Rosie’s head that she insisted on getting in her little alligator mouth and carrying around the store.

    Adventures In Sisterhood

It arrived just in time for the start of our human’s spring break, so she was in a good mood to get out and see the world with us. Rosie got a pawdicure at Petsmart while we were out since she’s too wiggly still for the humans to feel comfortable working on it at home just yet. My human says that wrangling Rosie on a leash is a full time one person job at this point and that’s if they’re going somewhere that Rosie wants to go. By the time my human had paid for things at the front cash register, though, they had finished with Rosie’s nails and called her on the intercom.
