"Cyberspace" seemed to promise a kind of society that real space would never allow——freedom without anarchy, control without government, consensus without power. With the current events happening I thought this would be a great read! Code 2.0 talks about how the internet is a place of freeom yet at the same time also creates potential for control. Governments, big tech, hacktivists can attempt to control the information on the Internet, but the truth is the Internet wasn't meant to be controlled. It cannot be controlled because of the Internet architecture. This is exactly why the internet cannot be 100% secure either. Even if it were to be regulated, who holds the moral compass for this? The Internet has no international borders and governments govern differently. Author Lessig does such a great job making you think differently from a political and social standpoint. This fascinating book is actually part of the Creative Commons which means it is available for free. 2021 here we go! 🌟 This post is for my beloved developers! There are many routes to get into cybersecurity but some type of IT experience is a must. I started off as a web developer and at first I had no confidence in getting into cyber because I couldn’t find the bridge between the two. Well at my current job I’m actually building queries and required to code in order to do #penetrationtesting ! I actually get to combine coding and cyber into my job. As many of u may know I’m big on side hustling! 💸💸 Just to share: I work a part time job, I rent out my car on @shareavail , I rent out my garage, I do @ubereats , I build websites, I earn royalties from a business I invested in, I sell stuff on FB marketplace, and I’m a landlord. Side hustles come in all shapes and sizes and it may be hard to figure out what you want to do. First determine your time. 🕦Do you have a few hours per week or more? With my websites I’m more of managing the clients, but I outsource the work because I don’t have time to be building out websites. I do quality control and get a cut for that. However others like my part time job require me to be in a physical location, so it does eat more of my time but I earn substantially more then some of my other passive income streams. Look at your goals and figure out what you’re looking to do. Are you hustling to create more passive income or buy something that matters to you? 🏦 That will help you figure out if you need to side hustle for maybe a holiday season or an entire year. For myself I will turn on the ubereats app when I have a short term goal that I need to meet right away. Many times I can earn $300 in a weekend and it works around my time. ✨ Lastly figure out what you like to do! When you enjoy something it can be easier to put in the extra hours for it. All of my side hustles I like to do. There are plenty out there besides mine. Hi everybody 👋🏼 I go by fab 😎 Now entering the last month of 2020 I look forward to what’s next and I like to reflect on the last year. This year I was able to attend RSA, an amazing cyber conference and have the opportunity to work with CompTIA 💞 I was able to pay a portion of my student loan debt off and in the process of purchasing my next investment property 🏡 I passed the Security+ exam 🤗 I caught up on my sleep and took time for myself! 💤 I also got a job offer that i would not have imagined would arrive so soon. I think we hear a lot about how cybersecurity works and the day to day activities people in the field deal with. However, I feel like not enough is talked about in the ethical area. Many people don’t realize the power they have with a computer and it can make or break societies. The Internet itself was created to be an information sharing platform. It’s creators built it in a way to make it a sharing environment, which is what has caused a lot of cybersecurity risks. It was just not built to be private. ⭐️Censorship ⭐️ We have seen this come up with certain countries like China, but we have to look at even at lower levels. If you had confidential information that you felt the public really needed to know how do you determine it? Is it even your decision to make? Have websites like WikiLeaks exposed too much information that it could put people or governments in harm’s way? Should there be a global organization that handles the ethics of cybersecurity? ⭐️Surveillance ⭐️ Who do you trust with your data and do you even have a choice? Banking and health information have carried into the internet, but did you have a choice in that? When 9/11 happened, people were more worried about their safety than being monitored (Patriot Act), but after a while many people were not ok with this. Who do you trust and who are you completely surrendering your information to? ⭐️ Hacktivists ⭐️ Groups of organized hackers look to find change through the internet by bringing down websites they don’t agree with. Do you feel like this is a good/bad way to protest? What if they brought down a database with medical information that could cause fatalities? Would that still be fine?  I bring up these questions because it is something you can run into at one point in your career. You have the tools and the skills to make decisions like this. Understand the power you have when you are in this field.
