I am an old school print journalist - that is my training. And something I carry here to the ‘gram is that mentality - when I am promoting a new story, there should be a fabulous photo depicting the story. There isn’t a photo that can accompany this story. This is a story about young widows and widower travel groups and how absolutely amazing they are. How they create joy, hope and light in a place of absolute darkness. And I mean absolute. If you know me - or have gotten to know me in the last few years - you have either heard me swoon over my boyfriend, John; or tell the story of his sudden passing. If you know me really well, you’ve seen me cry over it. If you don’t know me really well, you’ve seen me cry over it. I got the idea for this story in a dream. I woke up and realized that if I could help one person feel hopeful about the future after loss, that was good enough by me. And my friends @grief.unravelled and @forcedjoyproject generously gave their time and their stories to me to tell on their behalf - and on behalf of the partners they loved so deeply. I said there were no photos that could tell this story. Instead, I chose photos of myself looking at the adventures ahead of me and the beautiful life I am trying to live to the fullest, in memory of what I lost. Traveling is great, but sometimes it’s amazing to spend time in your own backyard. And, thanks to @soundviewgreenport and @magrinopr I got to do just that. I’ve been to Greenport many times but I truly feel like I uncovered so many more secrets and the magic of the East End hit me hard. We also had an incredible lunch by @laurenlombardievents and a tasting/tour at @macariwines - it’s so wild how well you think you know a place until you experience it differently. I recently got to spend some time in #FLX, thanks to @senecalakewine. I had been there before, but I don’t know, this time, it was different. Definitely because I was with @thesocalwinegal. Could have also been because it was the first time I went deer dodging (do not recommend). But the region has totally evolved. The WINE is delicious. The people are incredible. The hospitality was top-notch (except for the state trooper, but even he was hospitable in a way). I can’t stop thinking about what is happening in that region with wine; how passionate the winemakers are and how creative they have gotten. And, to be honest, I felt like I left with new friends. If you haven’t picked up a bottle of #flxwine in a while, here are a few I would recommend: ▪️ @atwaterwine 2023 Pétillant Naturel and Pétillant Natural Diamond; and also the Dry Rosé of Blaufränkisch/Cab Franc ▪️ @3broswine Cab Franc/Zweigelt ▪️ @lamoreauxwine 2019 Sparkling Riesling as well as the 2023 Dry Rosé (honestly, still dreaming about that wine at night) ▪️ @lakewoodvineyards made the most stand-out Pinot Noir I had the whole trip and deserves all the nods. Today, I have a new wine story up on @sevenfiftydaily. It’s about how wine shops are using registry to become more relevant; and to offer younger consumers a service AND an education. It is trend I have been watching since being in the housewares industry and I knew it was growing. I actually pitched it to another site and they passed (after also asking me to do a hearty amount of research, which was annoying). But I BELIEVED in this story so much and I knew it had legs. That’s my theme for this year - to believe in the ideas I have and to keep pushing when I know it can enact positive change. I already had a wine shop reach out to me and tell me this idea was genius and she would be doing one, too. So thank you @takeittocourt @caitmilla for believing in me, this idea and this story.
