SAVE THIS POST for a future trip to Bali 🇮🇩 This place is called Rumah Pohon Treehouse. 🛖🌊 HOW TO GET HERE: It’s located on Nusa Penida, an island just off the coast of Bali. 🏝 Ferries from Bali to Nusa Penida run every day and cost around $10 (€10, £9) one way. ⛴ If you’re coming from Canggu, Seminyak, or Uluwatu, take the ferry from Sanur Harbor. If you’re leaving from Ubud, you can take the ferry from Padang Bai. WHERE TO STAY: I recommend spending the night somewhere in Nusa Penida so you can quickly and easily reach this spot at sunrise before it gets busy. 🌄 I stayed in Kaje Cottage just an easy 20-minute walk (or 5-minute bike ride) from this spot. COST: 50k Rupiah (~$3.30, €3.40, £3) TIPS: Get there early and bring comfortable shoes and water. ⏰💦 Many stairs are required to reach this spot (going down on the way there, and going up to get back to the parking lot). 👟 This photo was taken at approximately 8:00am, and I had the treehouse to myself for about half an hour. Sometimes when I feel like I’m failing, I imagine myself explaining my current situation to my younger self. How would she feel if she knew how things would pan out? Would she be disappointed that I don’t have millions of followers? Would she be disappointed that I fell behind on a week’s worth of work because I got sick while traveling? Would she be upset that I still feel lonely from time to time, like when I did when I was her age? Or would she be inspired by the fact that I faced some of my biggest fears and strengthened some of my greatest weaknesses to be able to live my truth? Sometimes we lose sight of the bigger picture. It’s easy to think we’ve made no progress (or even worse, that we’ve taken steps backward) when looking at the short term. How often do we look at how far we’ve come in the long term? Why do we tend to only think of our mistakes and not our accomplishments, even the small ones? Younger me would think I’m awesome. Even 2020 me sitting in her windowless cubicle would be in awe. But I still get really down on myself sometimes. I guess it’s because I’m scared to let my younger self down. That’s why I put so much pressure on myself, even when I’m doing a pretty good job. It’s time I started living the way my younger self wanted me to - striving for progress instead of perfection, releasing fear, and being truly proud of myself. I’m doing what would make her happiest if she could look into a crystal ball and see her 25-year-old self. My original plan was to snap a typical floating breakfast pic at @villacellabella.bali but what I ended up with was 100x better 😍 Not gonna lie… at first, I thought I was unlucky because the rain would surely get my camera wet, the clouds would make the photos and videos too dark, etc. I thought my cute lil shoot was done FOR GOOD. 🌧⛈ Instead, I got a rainbow over the rice terrace, 🌈 which could be seen from the swimming pool where I was getting rained on. These are my best tips for visiting the Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali (all in a mini travel guide) 🇮🇩 ⭐️ SAVE this post for a future trip to Bali ⭐️ 🐒 Leave your valuables at home. These monkeys are SMART. They love to steal things, and they go straight for valuable objects (jewelry, cameras, phones, etc.) If you bring something valuable, pack it in a small bag and wear it in front of you, otherwise you risk monkey theft. Also, they can zip/unzip backpacks. Just… something to take note of. 😂 🐒 Don’t look the monkeys straight in the eyes 😳 The monkeys I came across were quite friendly and just curious to interact with humans. But they’re still wild animals, and they sometimes take strong eye contact as a sign of aggression. Just don’t stare them down and you’ll be fine. 🐒 Don’t feed the monkeys! 🍠 It’s safer for you and for the monkeys. And if a monkey jumps on you/pulls your clothes, stay calm. They’ll jump off/let go on their own and they don’t mean any harm. Like I said, they’re just very curious! 🐒 In the unlikely event that a monkey bites you, notify a staff member ASAP. They’ll take you to the on-site clinic and give you a rabies shot. 💉 I’ve heard from some people that the monkeys have been treated/vaccinated, and other people have said that’s not true. As a result, it’s better to be safe than sorry. (And monkeys won’t bite you unless you’re trying to feed them or you’re aggressive towards them.) 🐒 Don’t leave anything behind.
